Thursday's Dive

12mths after moving down from Karratha and near on zero free diving since, has seen me having to buy a new set of scuba gear to chase those tasty cockies that inhabit our inshore reefs. So today I christened my new scuba set out from G.I with a mate "Blocka" so with no ramp pressure we set out to time our dives with the easterly dying & before the SW kicked in. We had 2 dives both between 8-12mtrs and whilst they weren't there in numbers we managed to get our limit without too many hassles, with mostly whites and a couple of reds. I tell ya after years of free diving up north and grabbing painted's with relative ease & coming down here trying to catch them with the loop it was a little challenging. Luckily ol'mate Blocka is a dab hand at it otherwise it could of been a lean day.

Cheers Fozz

Well Done

Good stuff Fozz - looks like you were on my spot!:)

The loop sure makes life hard - I used to do well in South Oz with the curious Southern Rock Lobster too - these local ones are so flighty!

I could catch them back in the days of using a hook - I'm no longer any threat to the fish stocks!!!

LOL...

Fozz on the new gear and a successful dive, how was the visability and how did the fish life compare to karratha.

Hurry up Sunday

nice haul!

I still use a hook (blunt) occaisionally can be good to get them out of ledges where the snare won't go, also good to use it to prod or herd them out which works well if ur buddy can then grab them

Nice work champ. Did you end up testing Blocka's hooker set up while you were out there?

I ended up free diving around there in 4 to 5m yesterday but come up empty handed. Ended up fishing and squiding so i could take something home at least :).

Cheers Tim, always nice diving with mate that split the catch 50/50 haha. Hey Gaz, it was funny watchin Blocka dive on the hookah, as on tanks he "takes off" generally, so on the hose he's like a dog on the leash. Funny acouple of time he was signalling me to turn around and swin in the other direction as he'd run out of hose. Hey Blakey, the vis was OK, no probs in 10mtr's or so. Was in interesting from diving K-town in that every ledge you looked under today was a fox fish staring back at you (which you can handle), up north it would be a nice trout (which is hard to handle).

Glen, that skinny (fit) pri#k of a bro of yours will be diving 10mtr+ in no time, he's the only bloke who hasn't put on weight since leaving school that I know.
