Too much rubbish

Was a bit disgusted to see how much rubbish needed to be picked up at Wilbinga earlier today.

Shame so many people think it is OK to leave so much crap behind.

Thanks to all who rocked up to lend a hand. Photo below of a few of the forumites who were able to help out with the cleanup.

HORRIBLE weather.......!!!!!!

P.S. Go Eagles.

Nice work! the freo area where the sea rescue is, is pretty bad now just from the past month, before that was decently clean.

Good one Leemo

Good one Leemo.

Yep.... I made it out. Made the dumb decision to pump the tyres back up while still in teh dunes. Made for a bumpy ride back tot he main road!!!

The Nissan couldnt keep up with mad Sherbie and his Prado, but that was more my inexperienced driving than the Patrol's fault. Not enough clearance for some of those narly hills.

Good to meet you today.

Wilbinga Grove was the worst as I understand

Sun, 2011-09-18 16:40

Lots of dickheads going in that way and leaving crap everywhere. The Nissan Club members ratified that at the dump site. How difficult is it to clean up? Most take bags of firewood in. Why not fill them with crap and leave the place as it was? Surely it's not that hard? Maybe some of us are lacking something in caring for others and the environment. Maybe they just get too pissed/doped and just use the area as a place to party.... Anyway, bitch over, the job is done again. Don't come near me with those fuggin white gloves Rig. I have an axe in the car LOL.

Good ona for getting us out there and doing our bit to help clean up - this is a man that probably wont me walking in the next few yrs,but still cares enough to make the effort and get stuck in to help clean the place up. Not chasing a pat on the back for being out there, but more dissapointed in the fact that there were not more people coming out to help - every one has got excusses - its only a few hours 1 day a year - would like to see more members out there next year.

The amount of crap that is hidden behind the shrubs is shocking, black bags filled with bottles and then burried ...... camping chairs, tents, dirty nappies - this is not on,and lets not even start on the beach's with all the crap coming off the boats.

We could of had a thousand people up there and still would of not made a dent in all the crap thats up there .....

For the few that made the effort thanks - had a good laugh even if the weather was a little on the wild side.

Good stuff guys I fugn hate litterers, good to see some people have a bit of respect, rather, alot of respect. A bit of respect would mean takin ur own rubbish home, well beyond the call of duty to pick other peoples shit up aye. Did yous go to wet a line as well? Nice indicaters on the trailer too btw!

PS GO HAWKS!

Sun, 2011-09-18 21:28

Nice one guys, it really wasn't the best day for it either. The funny thing Is that the ones that are leaving all the crap behind will be the first ones complaining when the government cracks down and seals off all the access to these great places to go fish A reel shame

Top effort lads.  If all took home their rubbish there woud be much less pressure to close these places.

You can only blame fisho's and 4WDer's for the rubbish aswell.

Cheers Pete

We did wet a line.....

Mon, 2011-09-19 09:01

We did wet a line. At about 5.30 am right when the second cold front hit the coast!!!! Not much fun. Nothing caught.

My morning started when my brand new 4oz richter plug went sailing out past the breakers......... snapping my line becuase the dam bail arm closed mid-cast!!!  Then I had to try tying another leader to my braid..... in gail force winds!!!   LOL.

After the wind died down to a level where we could actually stand up, we hitched up Sherbies trailer and went for the cleanup.

The sad thing is that we could have gone all day cleaning up. That is how bad it was. I dont mind finding random bits of rubbish around, but when people leave whole bags full of crap from camping, and hundreds of beer bottles smashed!!! Grrrrrr!!!

 Sh!t, the broken bottles

Mon, 2011-09-19 09:05

Sh!t, the broken bottles would really piss you off. Especially knowing that most people on the beaches are barefoot. Makes you think twice before letting your kids run around as they please on beaches these days.

LOL - and I was snapping mine

Mon, 2011-09-19 10:23

LOL - and I was snapping mine 2 minutes later - over eager and forgot to open the bail arm.......SADLY - lost my fav lure; but great spots and hopefully we'll meet up in better weather to get stretched a bit. Was funny checking how quick our lures were blasted back at us in that gale force wind - was worth the try though.

I must add on the issue of rubbish, I have been fortunate to go to a lot of different beaches around the world, and what I have seen at Walbinga has been the worst to date......it is not the most difficult thing in the world to educate your mate, or young ones for that matter, to take their rubbish back home. SAD!

Fantastic

job fellas. I just can't believe how people have the gaull to leave their rubbish behind.  Old fart amd me even when we are fishing on the beach, will take everything home, 4x4 beach nice and steady, all we leave are our tyre, and feet marks.  We've also picked up the blue tie belts from cray bait boxes, plastic bags and brought them home to put in the rubbish bin in the Caravan Pk, Leeman.  When we had our two dogs I'd even pick up there doggie doo doo in a doggie bag and put in the bin.

Must agree these a...wipes will be the first to complain if any of their fishing spots are closed.

If you have the space to pack

Mon, 2011-09-19 10:30

If you have the space to pack your tent or camping chair, you have the space to bring it back if it breaks! dont know why people leave tents behind. what a waste.

bottles

Wed, 2011-09-28 08:22

Less than a week after the clean up (5 working days) was back up in the area for a over nighter and a morning fish - caught nothing, not even a hit,but thats not the issue.

On arriving at the "spot" that we had cleaned and left in a mint condition, found a pile of empty beer bottles/tins/plastic scattered across the area. This really p@ssed me off - dirty bastards - have some respect for others and the area before we loose it.

I filled up two bags of rubbish, wont belong before someone posts about cutting there foot on broken glass.

sorry for the vent - just miffed

poor form

Wed, 2011-09-28 09:23

poor form by those DH's.  There is always plenty of glass at that spot do they smash them over their own heads or what??

Thing that I find strange is it isnt a spot you can really fish at night anyway.

That sucks

Wed, 2011-09-28 19:47

That sucks that you guy's made a great effort to clean up an area and straight away it gets littered again.

Like a lot of members on here i always take home twice the rubbish that i brought in to a fishing spot, and have seen my favorite spots shut down one by one due to this problem.

The only thing we can do, like Sherb's has asked is keep removing the rubbish. I also tell people now what they are doing is wrong, i was worried i would create conflict but got sick of seeing people trash an area. Now i tell them or even offer a garbage bag and pick it up on my way out.

Good work Sherb's and Crew for your effort to save a great fishing area.

Cheers Grant..

You guys should put a post on

Thu, 2011-09-29 08:06

You guys should put a post on here when you are going up there to clean up and I will be more than willing to come give you a hand. I take my kids up there and would be deverstated to see one of them cut themselves on a broken bottle. I have also taught my kids if they see rubbish on the beach to pick it up.  It's not hard to take the rubbish home and throw it away.
