Top day with a tagged fish recapture
Submitted by Andy Mac on Sat, 2011-12-17 16:03
Put the boat in the water for the first time in a while and managed to bag out, in a pretty short space of time, which was good given my deckie had a function to go to in the arvo.
Picked up a very nice Baldie.
Plus a couple of fun size sambos
And the capture of the day was a tagged dhuie. I checked my tags and it wasn't one of my current crop, so will be interesting to see who caught it originally.
Finished the day with whiting and squid using my deepwater squiding technique.

My mate has it
He caught it so he is ringing it in. Ended in 75 so wasn't in my tag range.

Nice work Andy, I love seeing
Nice work Andy,
I love seeing recaptured Jewies...makes a mockery of those who believe that they all die. I know of one other recapture from yesterday too. I'll be interested to find out what depth that fish was originally released in and whether a release weight was used...
Nice fish :)

OK
Was out and about for 226 days and must've been on a good patch as it grew 60mm in that time.
It was tagged in 38 meters, recaptured in 43, but cant access type of release info ATM. Pete will have that data saved
And Matt, friggin heaps of them have been recaptured. Total Bollocks about them not surviving a release. Just be gentle with them and they are as feisty as

Thanks Jody
I know of many recaptures, but it's amazing that some scientists can't get their head around the fact...

Interesting if it is PeteD's
I think he may have tagged it from my boat.....
Here is a close up of the tag.. I was obviously tired when I posted originally, it sterted with 75 not end with 75

Tag number
was actually 76694 (That shiney reflection in the middle of the pic didn't help when I looked at it.) I have another shot that definitely shows it as 76, which is Pete D's tag range.
I now realise why 75 stuck in my brain, because that was the number of the tag I put in the last dhuie we caught on Saturday.
More signs I am getting old!!!!

Great Photos
Andy, that Dhuie just loves being caught.
The Baldie isn't bad either.

Ahaa!!!
The plot thickens, it was Pete D and it was from my boat when Pete, Tapout and myself had a day out on the 5th of May earlier this year.
That is definitely a healthy growth rate of 6cm in 7 months.
We tagged quite a few that day from memory. I dare say there are plenty of them out there still swimming around with our tags in them. I especially look forward to recapturing some of the larger specimens we have released if that growth rate is typical for the area.
Coincidentally Tapout scored a monster Baldie that same day too.
Cheers

nice going .how do you get
nice going .
how do you get into the dhufish tagging program ??
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Talk to Jody P
She may have the details, but not sure if they are allocating any more tags.
I think there is about a dozen of us doing it through ANSA and Westag.

I remember that day!
Besides it starting out with a flat tyre, it was a top day on the water. Nice result on the recapture too. Great result.
Just need more time out on the briny to tag some more.
Testament to treating the fish correctly and there is no reason why they can't survive and prosper well.
Cheers Pete
