TRADIES
There must be quite a few on here, and I’m sure 99% of you do the righty
I too am in the building industry, so am quite aware how excellent it is to finish early in the warmer months, get home and head out for a fish or whatever.
For the past 14 months we have had a new two storey house going up next door, and the amount of tradies who think it is OK to start throwing ladders around/scraping back render off the slab/start a compactor/deliver bricks with a forklift/dismantle scaffolding/chasing conduit and pipes/cranking the cement mixer/use a nail gun/ yada yada yada, well before 7am, in suburbia – It is NOT OK!
It is FAR from OK.
I don’t care whether “ The suns up lady” “Oh?Can you hear that?” “give me a break, I’ve got heaps on today” “some of us have to work for a living” “ I’ve got things planned for this arvo” or any other wanky excuse. That law is in place for a reason.
Unfortunately for these tossers, who know better, and ignored my request to stop, I have the home phone number for the MD of the building company.
I think it only fair that if I am woken, then so should he be. And his wife. And their new bub.
And as for the total prick who started throwing his scaffolding around this morning at …. get this ….. 5.15am …… are you for f**king real?????
I know this is a common occurrence as I hear it all the time from others, so if it IS you, can you please go for a fish at first light, instead of after work…….
I need all the beauty sleep I can get
LOL … that feels better

alot of tradies working on wages need to work as many hours as possible just to make enough to get by. think of the amount of people working on that job , just working hard trying to make a better life for there familys ,,and then theres you,, just looking for a whinge cause you didnt get your extra hours sleep. suck it up for the 6-8 month build time and take your dog for a walk or make your man some breakfest

Working as many hours as possible??? How about not knocking off at 1pm, see that all the time around here.
Laws the law cobber, surely a tradie can work say 6am-4pm and get shitloads done.

14 mnths to build a house? is she living next to Pankaj and Radhika Oswal in peppy grove. I'm only speculating here, but if you buy a new stage of a development surely you cant expect white picket fences to pop up next to you overnight without some disturbances.

I am by no means condoning
I am by no means condoning the noisy pricks who start at the crack of dawn, but being a bricklayer, I have been known to start early myself in the warmer months. I consider myself to be very considerate in terms of neighbours as we only have an electric mixer that doesn't make bugger all noise, and we won't have the radio on until 7.00.
After 14 months of it , I can see how it's wearing thin, but most complaining neighbours don't understand that their house was built as well and probably pissed off the other neighbours at the time!!
I totally understand where you are coming from Jody, and if they could exercise a little bit of consideration and do "noisy" jobs after 7.00 it would go a long way to helping the problem. It's not that hard to be considerate!!

I think that they may not have been starting before 7 for the last 14 months, also being a bricklayer in winter its still dark at 7(unless they had night vision goggles) but the 5 start is wrong and they should know. I can help you understand__ if you go outside for the rest of this week (32+) and stand in the sun from 5.30 till 2.30 for 2 days then go from 7 till 4 for 2 days you will see why, its that extra hour or 2 while its below 30 that lets your body do 8 hours and get a wage, remember we are working hard for that 8 hours too.

1.) If you don't let the guys start early, there would be even more chaos on the roads with everyone travelling at the same time which would mean that you have to get up earlier to get to work on time.
2.) If you don't let the guys start early then it will take longer to build because they will probably still knock off at the same time. Then you will have to put up with the noise for even longer. They might even quit and join the dole que which would cost us even more in taxes.
3.) You should never move into a house next to empty blocks or old looking houses that might get demolished in the near future and built on. If you do - then you just have to put up with the noise. As long as it's not before 4am I think it's OK as long as they don't play that commercial radio crap all day long either!

Hey it's not always that we want to go home early
As it gets warmer it gets frigid hot in the arvo
That's why most of us pack it in early.
Yeah people like to complain when it's the neighbors house
But you won't hear a peep out of them when it's theirs

Saying that
it gets Hot is hardly a reason. You guys race home when it's raining too.
Brickeys arn't the only trade and there not the only people that work outside in the elements. Personally i work in vineyards and we have to work in ALL weather at ALL times of the day/night depending on the season. If it's too hot or wet TOUGH TITTYS, work or go poor.
This is just another example of the lack of respect for others that has crept in society and were all poorer for it

In all honesty you cant compere the two
If you are working in the vines and it rains you just get wet.If you are laying bricks in the rain the wall falls down and if it is to hot the mud goes off before you can use it.Apart from that you sort of have a point.Oh hang on a sec......um .....oh .....No you dont.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

well like
i said, brickies arn't the only trade or the only people who work outdoors.
In Jodys case i doubt it has been the brickies. It would have to be a f&%king big house to still be laying bricks after 14 months.
Either way there are rules for a reason and if people had a little more respect for each other we'd all be happier

I reckon before 6 is plain rude. 6.30 is acceptable even tho the laws are for 7.
There have been plenty of tradies on site well before 7 working their cute little bums off without making any noise. What is so hard. Be considerate of those around you ... Like, PUT the shovel or whatever down, Don't throw it on the slab .... FFS
I've done the hard yards, +25 years outside in all weather. Perhaps 35 degrees turns some of you into the 'Princesses'
Quite suprised I have to justify myself being pissed off by some inconsiderate wanker at that hour of the morning.

no noise before 7am mon to sat or before 9 on sundays or a public holiday.
occasionally you can have some workers starting earlier (concrete workers, etc), but anyone shoudl have a pretty good reason why they are starting that early.
If they say its too hot later in the day to work then they arent suitable for that kind of work and should go find another job!!
Only need to complain once to the Council (may be required in writing), otherwise definately call the builder. If they do it too often, not only can they be slugged with fines but they can have their tools seized!!!

I agree totally with you Jody. The tradies that get me are the grano workers that think it's ok to lay someones pad in the friggin dark with their car lights on shedding some light on what they are doing. We have a block next door to us up for sale atm and God help any tradie that tries to work before 6.30/7.00 on that especially on the weekends!! All anybody wants is a little consideration and don't even get me started on the wanker over the road that delivers the plumbers materials before 6.00 with his radio blasting in his car with his window down - right outside my bedroom window. Well lets just say he wont be doing that again in a hurry. By the way this is Paul G's wife hyjacking his username. Thanks Rodrat for your avatar my hubby has been glued to the screen since it went up. Even distracting for an old girl that has some similiar just quite a bit lower. LOL

Worked as a roof carpenter
Worked as a roof carpenter for 17 years in Perth. Use to start between 5am-6am in summer to beat the heat. It wasn't so we could go fishing in the arvo. Most days I would be to buggered to do anything after work. Having a lot of young apprentices that worked for me, I found once it got too hot they really started to slacken off. So it only made sense to start early and get a lot more work done in the day. We always tried to be as quiet as we could until 7am but sometimes it was impossible. In the end I really got sick of yuppy f##ks winging all the time. Certain areas were way worst than others. If it wasn't one thing it was another.

i made some good time that day from midland cause i wasnt supposed to get there unti 7am,
on my travels i always see signs up saying no work to begin before 7am,
give it a go, just use big letters because most tradies are not looking around to hard in the morns....like when they park oppisite each other with the trailer doors open and wonder why i cant get my truck past.....think about it guys
most tradies will respect the sign and do the righty.

Westminster
Was living with a friend in Westminster a couple of years back ,across the road they were starting to build a triplex and as they usually try to do, turned up at 0530 to start setting out and compacting the pad. No worries, called the ranger and made a complaint, he turned up at 0800 and had a few words to them then pissed off.
Come next morning at 0530 and the pricks were back, so another call to the ranger and one to the mayor and another to the top nob in the shire office at their home numbers.
Sure enough the ranger comes down about 0730 and gives an "official" warning, without knowing of the other two calls I'd made. Surprise surprise at 0830 back he comes with a couple of white collars with him and a big pow wow happens and away they all go.
0600 the next morning and up turns a cement truck and all the grano workers and about five minutes after my call, the ranger with his book this time. They were all parked on the verge and blocking drive ways, nearest parking was 200 metre up the road opposite the church school. Book in hand he went from one car to the next and slapped a ticket on, including the cement truck for obstructing traffic.
They were going ape shit becuase they had started the pour and now had to drop everything to move cars, find wheelbarrows and instead of being able to chute the concrete directly from the truck they had tp wheel it some 30 metres from around the corner off the main street.
The ranger actually came over and apologised for not booking them on the first day like he should have.
If after the first try fails go straight to the top, do a little ground work and find the home numbers of the people who pull the strings and get them out of bed, it works every time.

i totally agree with the 7 am start of machinery and anything that makes a noise like a hammer and so forth. Even when i was working mowing parks and gardens out in the middle of nowhere we werent allowed to start machinery till 7, you can spend a bit of time on maintenence or sorting things out but engine noises or hammers and so forth can be totally annoying.

You stopped a concrete pour
You stopped a concrete pour at 6.00am.
That is sad mate, fair enough wet saws and noisy mixers, radios etc before 7 .00 am
But a concrete pour is a one off and the subbie most probably done his arse on that job because of you being soft. Unlike the grano workers who had to barrow conk 30 mtrs .
In this case the ranger is the wanker for not doing his job on day 1,

Warning
If the subby is too dumb to take notice of the first warning he deserves everything he got. He knew the rules and chose to risk it so he cannot expect sympathy from me.
As for being soft, I used to mow my neighbours lawn so that I could sleep while on nightshift . The only time he could do it was on a Sunday and I worked 4 out of five. He was happy and whats another half an hour pushing a mower when it means a decent nights/days sleep.

i can understand starting early, especially up here, the less time in the heat the better, my old man is a builder up here but strictly sticks to the no noise before 7am regardless.
It can be done these guys just need to think outside the box for ways to get work done and do it quietly. Daylight savings really is a good good thing at times like this.

cant believe the hero's with their responses to this post. If you are selfish enough to start making noise at such an early hour then I suppose you wont mind if your neighbour decides to make noise at a late hour when you are trying to get some sleep for your early starts.
I hope none of you guys ever have to go hospital to get surgery and find out that guy you have been waking up at 5 or 6 am is your surgeon and that due to lack of sleep he might be a bit wobbly with his scalpal...
or even worse that the guy who you kept awake who is now driving a massive road train doesnt clean up any of your family or friends - seriously, it happens and people can be held liable.
If you are just in the selfish pursuit of trying to make more $ and not have to work in the heat of the day then I seriously reckon you have issues!!!

Common sense
is the only thing lacking here - no one could give a hoot if you start at 5am - if you are considerate and don't make a racket. I used to run 3 teams of irrigation installers in Bunbury and they started at 6am in summer so they could knock off and miss some of the afternoon heat - and if i turned up on site at 6.30 and they had the ute radio blaring- it got switched off and they got reamed. Never had one complaint apart from one for bad language - that was my son - but he was a tool. And 14 months? Must be WA Country Builders.

Arrogant pricks
I guess some of you people are forgetting that there is a LAW to protect the rights of the average citizen.. They have the right to not be woken by loud machinery before 7am.. Thats the LAW..
Just the same as as a speed limit is the LAW. If you want to do 100km/h in a 70 zone then you take the risk of being fined. You guys are the hoon drivers of building trade. Only care about yourself and f#ck everyone else...
Just keep starting early and dont complain when the ranger/coppers turn up and give you a fine..
Go for the throat, Jody, ring the ranger and demand immediate action..It seems that todays tradies dont give a shit so its time to stand up for your rights.
The City of Stirling rangers, along with our Security Patrol Officers, are a part of the Community Safety team.

Lopsided
Why should the average person have to put up with someone who doesn't give a shit who they tread on in their efforts to make a quid. If the local councils made more effort to educate their residents on the bylaws that prevent this sort of thing and handed out more and bigger penalties it wouldn't happen.
We have to put up with a tractor running around at0500 most mornings and again at midnight 3 nights a week when he loads up his veges and tomatos to send down to the markets in Perth. No good complaining because his block is zoned rural/ agricultural and we're in a caravan park. Have had a word to him and he tries to keep it to a minimum but can only go so far, the good side is that it provides me with a steady supply of produce foe bugger all.

Shame too many whingers
Shame too many whingers voted against daylight saving.
This problem would not occur if it was still dark at 6:30
Bloody ridiculous up here in Karratha, daylight at 5AM. I feel sorry for the residents of Kunno, must be daylight at 4:15!!
