Got this in 300m.....thought it was a stripie but does not have the dark stripes along the body, rather it has light vertical stripes. Southern Bluefin??

I would lean towards SBT.
I would lean towards SBT. Bigeyes are much closer to a YFT. Longer pecs.

Notoriously difficult to tell
Notoriously difficult to tell apart, and much worse the smaller they are.
Colour is generally the last identifier of a fish unfortunately.
On many occasions we had AFMA inspectors checking our catch on the packing table for export and we rarely kept an SBT unless special due to the quota lease cost ($30 a kg).
The conversation would go "thats an SBT" no it isnt, the only SBT we have is still in the hold
Out would come the books and an argument which we would sometimes win.
And finish with the barbed comment "if you guys cant id it laying on a table dead, how can we 100% when its going round and round on the end of a snood in the Southern Ocean"?
Either way, it'll be VERY tasty!
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

small SBT in my mind. Pec fin
small SBT in my mind. Pec fin looks small but is actually longer than it looks - (due to the fact it's pointing almost directly at the camera).

Yeah Paul, pecfin was normal, it isan optical illusion due to angle.
Got this as a double header with a smaller model tuna of the same make and model. Agree, looks like a SBT....its just been 3 years since I have seen one!
Will be sashimi'd tomorrow.
