My brother and I did a charter out of the Gold Coast during the week. We were chasing blue marlin but no luck so when we heard about a big school of yellowfin busting up we took our chances.
Trolled around for a while trying to entice a bite. Eventually hooked one, which took an hour to land on 130lb gear. Estimated weight around 80kg.

The Hawaiins call them "AHI"
The Hawaiins call them "AHI" which apparently translates to "Ball of Fire" - it's easy to see why in this photo. Great fish that would have pulled like buggery !

Just to clarify
It was actually my brother that caught the fish, not me.
My father-in-law has said that pound for pound a tuna will pull a Marlin backwards. Seeing this fish I believe him. We fought it on 10-12kg of drag. An 80kg Marlin we would have knocked over in less than half an hour on that gear.
