Type of Fish
Submitted by Choobsy on Mon, 2012-06-04 16:21
Can anyone please tell me what type of fish this may be, I caught what looks like a mullet from the beach at Golden Bay on Saturday night but it had whiskers on it like a threadfin salmon. It definetly was not a yellow eye mullet as I caught a few of those and they were different. Unfortunately I don't have a photo, any info would be appreciated. Cheers.

Its an interesting catch.
Its an interesting catch. Like I said earlier, my work mate has been catching them regularly in the same area so I'm 99% sure what you caught was a threadie

Very Possible
to be a threadie. Spoke to a ranger on white hills beach saturday arvo, he said he had seen one caught about 3km south of Preston beach entry.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

If its a threadfin, its
If its a threadfin, its probably a striped threadfin, which seem to be the most common species south of the tropics. Have heard of them coming down from time to time. Check out the pics and see if it looks the same?
