UNDERWATER CAMERA

Looking for advise on camera that I can use whilst diving in water up to about 20mts.Also to have in boat for those shots of the good fishing days and the shots of the days that we should of stayed home. Needs to have a good zoom so I can use it to take some photos of the young bloke body boarding , which is some times about 100mts away from shore( to bloody cold to head out there) .

I seen some underwater photos on this site from various cameras and some are top class shots with several comments on what camera was used ,but cannot seem to track them back down.

All comments appreciated

Try www.dpreview.com for researching the cameras.  20m might be a bit deep for the compact waterproof cameras, so may need a conventional camera and a waterproof housing (though they arent that cheap).

The G9 gets a good wrap..

The G9 gets a good wrap..

Also the Canon housing is rated at around 40 meters..

Only issue with going deepish with the compacts will be in-ability to use external strobes.

Sony cybershot in a housing

Works brilliantly and you can pick up the housings reasonably cheaply and they are very reliable, the cybershot alsao has a clip on zoom when out of the housing doubling it's optical zoom
