for those who may find it

Fri, 2012-02-10 11:32

for those who may find it difficult to decipher my post whilst i was leaning over the bonnet, crying...,at 5 am i had launched my vessel(ship/boat/cuddy cabin to be precise) at a boat ramp inside hillarys boat harbour. from there we steamed to a point located off trigg beach approx 400 metres from the high tide mark on the shore. after tying up rigs for he other non fishing inclined person and floating a herring rig out we had caught nothing after approx 1 and a quarter hours, making the time 6.15 am. it was at this point in time i felt damp underneath my feet and noticed some water around my fuel tank at the rear of the boat. i wisely started said vessel and headed back to the harbour where i retrieved the boat and headed to a repairer.

i hope this makes it easier to follow. those amongst us who can look outside the square will notice that i have condensed the above into 2 lines in my original post to save you the bother of reading for an extended period of time....please note the humour and cynicism but i am merely telling a story about my trials and tribulations with my first boat, for your entertainment

thats alright mate, when i

Fri, 2012-02-10 12:41

thats alright mate, when i had my last boat i was putting the transducer on myself and after drilling a few holes etc put the tranducer on and away i went on a fish trip up north, put the boat in the water and go fishing.... then start thinking life is lovely atm...... give it 20 mins later the pump comes on and water starts pumping out the boat fair enough i think head back in, leave the boat on the mooring over night with the batteries on so the water could pump out, hahhahah this is the funny bit.........

batteries go flat through the night and the boat has about a foot and a 1/2 water in it, thinking im farked no time to get the boat out, (who ever has been to port gregory would know the sand there is very soft indeed) get the f250 hook the trailer up and in the drink it goes hurry up and put the boat on and get out fast, but too late car sinks in the soft sand and boat on trailer, in the end it took 4 cars all linked with chain to pull the car and boat out, moral of the story shit happens, that was the most action the jetty there has ever seen, least  i had a good laugh about it.

Reminds of a trip years ago

Fri, 2012-02-10 15:32

Reminds of a trip years ago to Direction Island.

My brother inlaw owned the boat and could not make the trip.

Being fairly flushed for funds I bought a fibreglass 4.5m cabin cruiser from a mates mate.

Usual shit "great boat mate ,motor runs like a top, never takes water etc etc"

Had the motor serviced just before we went up and ran like a top with the muffs on.

Direction Island your boat sits on a mooring 100 yards offshore and if its blowing you just sit there and watch it bounce up and down.

After 2 days of wind got up in the morning and she was looking a little low in the water.

Swam out and then the fun started. Needed a can of Start U Barstard to get her going then ran her unto the beach.

Waited till the tide went out leaving her high and dry and drained half an ocean out.

Basically spent the whole week doing that and trying to get it to run.

Weren't game to go more than 5 k's from the island in case we couldn't start it.

Stuffed up a good week. To make matters worse, sold it when we got back and lost $1500.

haha, me and a mate decided

Fri, 2012-02-10 16:49

haha, me and a mate decided to go out 5 mile in a bream fishing boat (about 4m long) at 6pm fished for a lil while the sun went down and sittin in the pitch black we had a few beers and decided to move spot started the motor and took off but the boat wouldnt go faster that a jogging speed, both puzzeled we decided to check the fuel tank we opend the lid where the tank goes, and the tank floated out of the well, my mate had dissconnected the bilge pump hose and water had been filling up below the floor, we held full throttle while i bailed out water for a good 20 mins till the boat planed out and we got some speed up and headed straight for the ramp, dodging the breaking waves going into the cut (at bunbury), never been so scared in me life after talkin about all the sharks that had been spotted around we found our self in the middle of the ocean...sinking haha

crabbing what fun !!!!

Fri, 2012-02-10 18:10

this happened many years ago in the mandurah estuary, i had a 12 ft tinnie 5 hp seagull and the world was my oyster, before taking the kids and then wife out all had the lecture about wearing life jackets at all times sitting in the middle of the boat don't lean over the sides etc. well I'm pulling up this pot and in it is an absolute rip snorta of a crab, so what does dad do but says look at the size of this. Yep all and sundry leaned over the side of the boat to have a look and the side of the boat dipped just below the water. Before you could say anything there is one tinnie just floating with the gunnels at water level kids 8,6 and 5 all floating inside the boat laughing at what dad the prat has caused Mum is crying  we are going to all drown. Then I tell her the water is only 1.3 metres deep and you can stand if you want to, before I can finish that is what she does. I then tell her I wouldn't stand on the bottom because that is where we have been catching these great big crabs. More crying threats of murder etc. Finial get kids out of boat and have them floating with the PFD,s along with now quite histerical Mum, put youngest into boat with bucket and she bails until boat gunnels just above surface, she gets out next youngest in and repeat the process untill the boat is floating properly again with Mum sitting midships . I get into the boat (with great difficulty) and the good old seagul starts first pull and I,m ready to go to the next pot. To keep it some what short the rest of the pots stayed where they were and the crabbing was curtailed for some months.

The bottom line is this, it just takes a second and you can go from having great fun to an emergancy situation ( we all laughed about it some years later)

 some good stories guys. its

Fri, 2012-02-10 20:56

some good stories guys. its amazing how quickly things can go pearshaped, putting great plans aside, made all the more scarier when out at sea.GKS fibreglass has a good look over my boat, reckons previous repairs are sweet , but to replace bungs and we go from there.failing that previous previous previous owner plumbed a drain hole for a 'bait receptacle' at very close to waterline. one of the lads had been in that corner and he is no lightweight. that may have been enough weight in that cnr to allow seepage, gradually filling the spot where the bilge should be installed after i purchase one......
