Saw an upturned boat at the mouth of the Murray/ serpentine on Saturday, anyone know what happened? Also not that I'm interested, what's the go with salvage rights?

what sort of boat is
what sort of boat is it?
Salvage rights-much more complex than people think! My understanding
1/ A boat must be "abandoned"-not just broken a mooring or dragged its anchor etc. Not even just when the crew jump off cos they think its gonna sink and it doesnt (or does even!)
Basically I think-the owner actually doesnt want it anymore
2/ Large commercial vessels use whats called "Lloyds Open Form".
When a captain realises he has no little or no hope of saving his vessel he gives (via radio) permission ("Do you accept Lloyds Open Form") to another vessel/salvage tug to do whatever it takes assist. I think its on the basis of "No cure no pay".
But when its successful both parties go before a Salvage Board at Lloyds of London who decide how much the salvor gets taking into account risk, outlay etc-they are also accepting risk of any oil spill etc from that moment on.
I remember a mate I fished with had a wetliner up north and he got a call from the Police saying that it had broken its mooring and was in the mangroves, and a couple of dodgy locals were trying to get it out to claim salvage rights. Police said we'll let them get it out then take it back
, exactly what happened!
I was always told by the old fishermen that if you break down etc and need a tow, ALWAYS use your own rope.
If there is a dispute over payment, terms etc you can cut your own rope, but not someone elses.
Im sure there are others who can add/correct me though-the VMR guys may know abit more?
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Just a little FG runabout
Thanks for the info, was only asking about salvage as I suspect it will be stripped of its contents overnight, looked like crab net floats bobbing around it, police boat was just leaving the area when we saw it.
