I have a 06 250 and love it. Yes they are thirsty compared to other big 4 strokes but only if you hammer them. If you keep them under 4200 rpm ( Mine anyway) its just as good if not better in my opinion. Very quiet as well. But like anything each to their own.
Mate has the exact same boat as ours, 250 Verado uses 108 litres per hour at WOT, our 300 suzuki uses 90 LPH at WOT. His is marginally quieter though, both have digital throttle, his is heavier, smaller displacement, has a supercharger.
I wouldnt buy one and I dont think he would again either, looking at a big yammi to replace it.
You make a point but this is an argument that had been thrashed out before with no real solution other than personal choice. The suzukis are a great motor
End caps on the blower are noisy think they did an update in 09. Sensors are unrealiable, gearboxes are weak have a habit of dropping teeth on FWD gear. have changed quite a few oil pump seals. expensive to service. spark plugs are $40 each they run synthetic engine oil nearly $20 a litre. wouldnt own one out of the box let alone one with a 1000 hrs.
Andy is excactly right, i am a service manager at a mercury/yamaha dealership and you could not give me a verado. The amount of times they come in for repairs compared to any others is crazy. Gearboxes, fuel pumps, shift switches, float switches, lower oil seals. They are definatly the most expensive to service and you have to have the right oil wich can only be bought from a mercury dealer. At 1000 hours i would say that the problems will start pretty soon. gearboxes generally blow at 2000 if they are well maintained. My choice is definatly a yammy or a suzuki..

Seem to chew out gearboxes around those hours.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
