The WAFL Thread
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2015-07-21 17:59
Won't need a round by round thread but does anyone still follow the WAFL?
My family are all Black Duck's through and through and I try to get to at least a handful of games each year and I much prefer heading down to Basso than I do going to watch the Eagles at Subi. Best part is I can get a couple of cans of full strength for me and some chips and an icecream for the young fella and I still get over $5 change from a $20.
2015 is a cracking season and bar Subi at the top and Perth at the bottom (who'd have guessed) any team can beat the other on any given day and it is going to be an interesting finals series.

I'm A Loyal Royal
Ever Since I Was A Little Kid I Have Followed Thei Mighty Blue And Blacks
Used to love hearing about Brent Armanasco's 60 yard droppies into the forward line from the half back flank. Other fave players were Steve Curtis, Cowboy Bygraves, John Burns, Hans Verstegen, Phil Tierney, Mal the mouth, Carl Fragomeni, Big Ron Alexander, Peter Spencer, John Ironmongrel lol.
Ahh yes, the list goes on from the good old days!
Shit, How Could I Forget Brad Smith, Phil Kelly, Johnny Hayes, Alex Hamilton, Cabes - I'm Sure I Will Think Of More Greats!
I Guess Their Just The Eagles Reserves Now, But Still My WAFL Team ;)

Just a quick question
I haven't been to a football match in a great many years. So what is the cost of a family of 5, 2 adults 3 kids to get into the WAFL, and what is the cost of the same family to get into a AFL match.
Just wondering.

WAFL is $15 each for adults
WAFL is $15 each for adults and kids under 15 are free. My kids love to run amuck on the hill and they have jumping castles and areas to build blocks etc and we can have a kick on the oval during the breaks. Love it.

Legendary! The old boy never played in the league side but would have come up through Colts in around 1970 and started out in the Thirds but moved down to Collie due to work commitments and played in the SWFL.

quite a player was Phil Narkle :)

Yep black ducks all the way
Nothing better than sitting in the McDonald stand and hearing the jarrah flooring rumple with the "swans forever" chant. I especially liked Holmes and also bagley back in the day. Lord knows there was plenty of good ugle's and jetta's to grace the feilds of bassesdean and then later afl fields as well.

I got into a stoush with Boucher one day back in 81 after he tried to clean me up. I was going to belt him but Basil stuck his helmeted head in and said to me, you don't want do that, didn't care too much so I punched him anyway.

Didn't drop him, but he felt it. Had a beer afterwards, so what happens on the field stays on the field.

Swannies playing Peel Chunder
Swannies playing Peel Chunder (aka Fremantle, aka The Crabs) this weekend. Not only do we have to play an AFL reserves side but due to the new TV deal we have the league side playing in Mandurah at 11:30am on Sunday morning
Jarrod Blight had a good one last week after a long absence and we'll also welcome back Kirk Ugle's courage and ability to run the lines and hit targets on the rebound and jag a major or two. Crozier will be out of the Dockers errr Peel so should be an interesting game and hopefully Pearce doesn't pick up another lazy 35 against his old team mates like he did last year (even though we still won) here's hoping big Rudy 'The Crowd Favourite' Riddoch can iron out some of these Dockers youngsters.
Let's hope the hot and cold Black Ducks can get up and find some consistency leading up to the pointy end of the season .Good news is that Elari is due back very soon and our rock Simmo is also due back next week.

So far Swannies have picked
So far Swannies have picked up Ryan Crowley, Clancee Pearce, Jamie Bennell, Corey Gault, David Ellard and Xavier Ellis straight out of the AFL system and word is that Chris Yarran is down at Basso having a run with the boys. Also had some highly rated boys return from the country leagues looking to put their hand up to get drafted next year and Blakely and Blight returning from injury.

Who you calling Bogan??
Lived right in Basso down by sandy Beach.
That's not a bad list of players. Peel might have a challenge backing up.

Those in glass houses are allowed to throw stones mate. My old man grew up across the road from Success Hill reserve and I spent my first 8 years in Basso near Anzac Primary. Sandy Beach was where we spent pretty much every Good Friday and Mothers and Father's Days.
The old man tried to get me registered under nanna and pop's address when I was in the East Perth development squad so I could play for Swans but they wouldn't have it as I played for Balla. Turns out I wasn't quite tall, fast or skillfull enough for WAFL anyway

But then I couldn't play footy at all - Rugby was the name. Happened to us imports from Saffa land.
But Bill Skwirowski was a neighbour and we jogged together getting fit for the codes.
Also see a lot of Stan Nowotny were I work down here in Mandurah. Still fit as (apart from Footy knees)
