Walpole Holiday
Another Christmas holiday at Coalmine caravan park done and dusted. The persistent easterly blow made the water activities feel like a winter get away. We did manage to sneak out of the river mouth on the first morning (was pretty rugged out there) and get into a few fish including a solid Dhu which fed the hordes back at camp. I didn’t even get a yellowfin whiting flats session this year as the weather gods didnt play the game. Even with the wind the inlet mouth is one of the best spots for the kids to run free. The pic with the skippy was one of the windier days blowing 25- 30 knots making for a wet inlet crossing and a very sparsely populated quiet inlet mouth. Only a couple of glassy mornings this year for the early birds, but always worth getting up early to see. New years eve was the pic of the days on the water.

Sun 27th for the week. Not long enough but the easterly pattern is still stuck in the bight, home now making the most of the last few days of leave with a bit of crabbing.

Walpole at Christmas
I was also there for the Christmas break.....22nd Dec to 1st January. Stayed at Rest Point.
Those easterlies were pretty serious, but we still managed to get amongst the Yellowfin Whiting.

Blowing
Just got back to ktown after 2 odd weeks, never seen it blow so strong for so many days in a row. Heard the mouth was extremely shallow to get outside.

Very Shallow
I often think about taking the Reefrunner down but I don’t reckon there was enough water to get it through. You would need the extra crew on board to push over the shallow sections. We fish out of my mates Stacer dinghy with a 40 Yamaha 4 stroke which is perfect for the job. We only fish around the islands but it still gets very washing machine like with the opposing swell, wind, current out there. I get crook 99.9% of the time when out there. There was only a 2 hour window on the day we went out and it was blowing hard by 9am. Caught 3 Queen Snapper, 1 Dhu and a couple of unstoppables. Dhu went a nudge under 10kg. One unstoppable my mate hooked was the fastest ive seen a 10000 spinning reel peel line that I can remember, I thought it could of been a Mako? hooked off the bottom.
