Website for discount outboards... Legit?
Submitted by qld_jim on Wed, 2017-05-10 21:01
Hi all,
My first post on fishwrecked, if i'm digging up old news please let me know.
I've been looking at upgrading outboards and i came across this website. http://www.yamaha-outboardsale.com
I'm always wary of online scams that seem too good to be true, so i'm here to ask if anyone has seen this site or bought from there before?
Thanks in advance
Jimbo.

No thanks
Have a look at the so called feedbacks on their website. The tone and "english" is literally the same as the person who made the website... hmmmmm!!!
What about freight charges and warranty?

Scam
There are heaps of these going around and all scams.
below is a response I got from Honda when I let them know about one who was claiming to be an authorized dealer.
Easiest way to check if they are real is to see if they are listed as a dealer on the main suppliers website
Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us.
This site is in no way related to Honda Marine Australia.
Over the last 12 months we have seen several scam websites pop up. Generally these websites are offering deals on Honda outboards that are too good to be true.
We would encourage you to get in contact with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Scam Watch. Their website is:
https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/types-of-scams/buying-or-selling/online-shopping-scams#warning-signs
Please also know that any outboard purchased through an outlet that is not affiliated with Honda Marine Australia, will not be covered by Honda Marine's industry leading 7 year domestic warranty.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any further concerns or questions.
Many thanks,
Sarah

Too good to be true.....
Sometimes can be hard to filter the legit discounted websites from the scammers. One way to check the legitimacy is to try buy what you're looking at. If the only payment option is 'direct debit' you can pretty much guarantee you are one or two clicks away from being ripped off. Like wise, if PayPal is available at checkout you should be sweet.
Being mindful of scammers and personal data, i wouldn't use any actual personal information until you've sussed it out. Having a 2nd, bogus profile and email account can come in handy there.

WOT
If you use Firefox or Chrome there is a handy extension called WOT (web of trust). It pops up a warning as soon as you enter that site on my PC. Can be a very useful indicator of dodgy websites (although not always 100% accurate as it is based on user ratings).
There is also a thread on Thehulltruth about that particular site. Scams everywhere these days.

A quick
A quick search of the company name on google showed it listed on many fraud and scam pages.
They also were linked to other companys with almost the same web page of marine motors for sale.
