I saw this once a couple of years back. We could see the cell coming and steamed for the beach. Literally 5mins after we were on the sand it came through and whipped the seas into a shit storm for about 15mins. Once it passed it was as calm as.
Just think of us poor Sea Rescue guys that have to go out in this because someone rushed out to get a quick pinkie or two without checking the boat first.
Good luck if your heading out & please stay safe.
Oh & please radio in before departing the marina.
cheers Rob
We were on the water tonight and saw the lightning coming so we headed in and was washing the boat when it hit, saw one boat out there on the way in so I hope they made it ok.
I gather it is something about the weather. Down here at Mandurah it has just been blowing a bit strong from the Nth west, nothing to get excited about and now it is quite light and has gone all muggy again. What happened.
Driving home from Rotto/Perth today after an ab dive off Ocean Reef.
Got call from missus to say it was hailing at home.
Just before Dongara t junction it started raining and I pulled over, then hail. Thought Id move on 500 meters to some trees but it rained so hard I couldnt see past the bonnet nor along the verge to pull over at 15kmh.
Lasted about 20 minutes but as heavy as I have seen for a while.
Hey Al, I was down at rockingham beach last night to take lightning photos when that wind hit, gotta say I've never seen anything like it before, picked up at least 40knots in less than a minute, surreal!
Yep we were out off Mindarie last night. We could see it in the distance and boy did it come up quick. We picked it up on the radar about 5 miles away and decided to pack up and head for home but by the time we got the gear packed up and the anchor up it hit us. By the time we got to the marina it was blowing like crazy 35 plus knots and dust everywhere. There were about 6 trailers in the car park still when we left. I did notice it was high tide and the surge had the water lapping to the top of the jetties.
Wild one for sure.
Calm as evening. Watched the tennis and a little while after some Fishing show.
Went to bed about 10pm. Then hit. Blew off some branches and rearranged the patio furniture. Blew the dogs bedding away and scared the living shit out off the pup. We sleep with a sliding door open in the bedroom and even blew over a bedside lamp inside.
Like a bad winter storm for 20minutes, but no Thunder/lightning, and only 0.3mm rain.
Wouldnt want to be on the briney with that sudden blow. On BOM Radar the cell appeared to almost settle in Perth, and only slowly moved down from there.
We didn't get anything like that down here at falcon, at least not that I'm aware of. Don't blink or you will be murdered by the storm. Glad to see that it appears all got home ok.

Cut us off!
I went out 30kms from Mindarie today in my 6.4m ally and the weather was perfect. Early in the arvo we saw a big angry cloud gathering strength to the north so we started motoring in but got cut off from land by some crazy lghtning and had to hang out about 15kms out. It got bigger and crankier till we could see it was pissing down hard right along the coast and constant lightning was hitting the water between us and the coast. Ended up scooting in between two thunderstorms about 3pm. A bit close for comfort but the ocean never whipped up where we were.
