What are those fish that splash on the surface at upper swan area?

I usually fish around guildford/upper swan and I notice that in the afternoon during a certain time period, fish will splash on the surface every minute or so for about 1-2hrs.

I don't know why they splash, it doesn't look like there's a predator fish chasing them and it also doesn't look like they're getting food.

They will splash all over the river, middle, shallows, anywhere really. Anyone got any idea what they are and why they splash?

The ones

The ones that just make a small splash and you never quite make out the fish are usualy Bony Heering. Lots of small ones around at the moment.

The mullet usualy make a bigger splash or even jump clean out of the water. If you see a school of mullet in the shallows acting like something is chasing them, then there probally is. I find lots of flathead under the mullet schools.

Either way the splashes are feeding fish, but watch for big swirls behind them, these will be Mulloway chassing them.

Yes lots of shrimp and prawns jumping too.

Cheers Grant .
