What is this fish?

I was fishing in the river at succes hill and i always see this one fish about 35cm - 40 cm jump really far out of the water. It jumps around a meter and a half far and the colour of the fish is a pale white colour. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Mullet

MrMulloway, lots of mullet in that area, they can look white at first glance, especialy while flying trough the air.

They can jump very high at times if spooked, ( ie mulloway chasing them.)

Its definately not a boney

Thu, 2011-03-31 20:45

Its definately not a boney herring because the shape isnt the same but i think it is mullet being chased by mulloway and btw there are so many schools of mullet, boney herring at succes hill atm, maybe you could get a sabiki rig (i dont know if it works on boney herring) and try it out.

Bony's flip not jump

Thu, 2011-03-31 22:17

I have fished that area for over 20 years,

Bony herring seem to just flip a bit, ie you see a splash but not a jump.

I have had mullet jump straight at me in the boat, one nearly knocked my mate out cold.

Sometimes they do multible jumps and have seen mulloway breaching the water behind them.

Sometimes they just jump for no obvious reason.

Thats cool

Thats cool bro, you goto watch what's happening in an area and take advantage of it.

When i see that sort of thing happen< bang out goes the mulloway gear>

It can frustrate you to see fish jump but Hey that's what some fish do.

PS.. Bony,s are are plankton eater. Very rare to get one on a hook. Better of buying a pack from a tackle shop for bait.
