Have a look at the Abu Garcia Veritas range. I have the 6'8 3-5kg and use it with a Stradic ci4 2500 with 10lb sensor. Light enough in the tip for herring and whiting but has grunt down low for lure chucking for tailor. I cast lures up to 25gms (nearly an oz) and it launches them out. Usually $160ish but Anaconda have 25-30% off sales every couple of months
Hard to give you any advice as you can see from replies so far 6' to 10' rod. Makes a diff knowing where you are going to use it, boat, jetty, beach or rock. Where the snapper come in? I only see you mention herring, tailor & whiting. Anyway, all you need is a 3-6kg rod no matter the length. Next is size of your budget but I guess with the info you get you decide what quality you want. Good luck.
I use a Shimano Raider Mexican fire, snapper MF 762, it is a little on the heavier side at 5-8kg, but I have caught whiting, herring, squid,red and spangled emperor and pink snapper all from the shore and boat, I have it paired up with a Sahara 4000 reel. It is my old faithful go to rod, always carry it in the car with a bunch of lures and plastics. It is a fairly light set up and can get a reasonable cast, and not too expensive either about 130 mark

Wow...bit of a difference
Wow...bit of a difference between herring and snapper. Ive tried using a 3-6 kg 6ft boat rod for herring...cant really feel them on it that well

Go and see the guys at Oceanside for a Fishingwa rod, that will be a great rod for what you need.

+1 for the veritas great rod
+1 for the veritas great rod i have used my 9kg one many times for herring even over my lighter rods. didnt see him mention snapper guys?
