Whats the best way to catch barra

I have a trip coming up to the kimberly region and was wondering what the best method for fishing barra is and what is the best rig/ lure to use. Some people swear by lures and others live bait. I am keen to try both and catch my first barra but any info that could point me in the right direction to catchin the prized barra would be great.

The most successfull method

The most successfull method would be livebaiting. Lure fishing is alot more enjoyable but is harder work. The results are worth it though.

For livebaiting I use a running sinker rig with a number 1 or 2 bean or ball sinker. 9/0-12/0 hooks and minumum 60lb leader preferably 80lb. The biggest mullet you can catch, that's the best barra bait :)

For lure fishing you can usually get away with lighter leader 40-60lb. I don't use snap swivels as I don't trust them instead I connect the lure to the leader with a perfection loop knot.

As far as lures go, Classic 120's, RMG 125's, Reidys B52's, Killalure River Rat, Bombers are all popular choices (there's alot more but these are the first to come to my head).

Colours I don't think you can go past gold... I also like purple around my area. Elton John colour is also one of my faves.

Unfortunately barra are very finicky, it's worth having a huge variety of colours/actions because you never really know what they're going to be taking on any particular day... sometimes they'll take anything you throw at them other times they'll be extremely fussy.

live baiting is the most productive method by far with mullet in the salt and baby bonys in the fresh but let me tell ya boring as hell. lures on the other hand are fun and the visuals are second to none cant beat it if you put in the hard yards lure fishing for them is far more rewarding i think ne wayz
