flinders bay region we berlyed up and caught bait on softies and then used them for live bait worked better than mullies and lures.we were fishing in a spot that looked like a kids rock pool about 4 meters of the beach gave the shimano drag its first work out and man there are some big rays down there.
Just be very careful about deliberately targeting them down that way though, cause quite a number of rays are town pets. Get caught and you won't ever get to Augusta again.
I wouldn't say that at Hamelin bay when they come in for a feed every afternoon, you might be looking for 4 x new tyres and a large packet of kingsize bandaids.
The big rays have been coming in to be hand fed for years and it is even mentioned in tourist brochures Australia wide.
we have hand fed the rays down there and they are very friendly and inquisitive.a lot of them have lost their tails over the years from being hit by boat props and some have big scars on them but they keep coming back
wow we went and boy did we have fun. Even miss 5 caught her first ever salmon, she normally just gets bait fish for us, which I might add her and miss 2 love catching bait fish. It is the thrill of the catch 4 them.
The salmon she landed was aprox 4-5 kilo with the help of a family friend whom I might ad was his very first salmon also.
Think we got him hooked on fishing now too lol.
Have heard from a few ppl that they r now in metro waters. If this is right would love to go again as we can't travel too far away now as the 4wd radiator crapped itself and had to be towed back from Dunsbourough on the weekend to perth so only have the sedan.
So if u hear of them being in the metro area can u let us know.
Cheers all happy fishing. BTW I always say that fishing is like a spider when it casts its web. A spider sits their patiently waiting to trap a fly, and we wait patiently waiting to catch the next BIG one!!
Mate of mine was fishing at rotto for them just recently. was fishing for 4 hours and between the two of them they caught 127 salmon, of which some were around the 8kg mark.

Brady Bunch They are everywhere from Bremer Bay
to Perth at the moment. However, finding them is still hit and miss as they are on the move. If you are going down south I would try Hamelin Bay.
