Where to buy outboard parts?
Submitted by Matty22liverpool on Mon, 2012-10-22 18:16
Hi everyone,
I've had a look through the forums briefly and can't seem to find anything on where to go to buy outboard parts. I've got a 2 storke 2003 40HP Yamaha outboard which doesn't seem to like being started, although once initially started it starts and runs fine everytime thus far. Is this a common thing? Any advice or tips would be great.
Anyway back to topic where NOR is best to buy outboard parts? I.e. filters, plugs, leads etc
Thanks in advance.

Alllllll 2 strokes
If you're not doing this already, this is the routine to (pull) start the majority of 2 strokes - outboards, mowers, whipper snipers, etc
1) prime fuel bulb (or my johnno outboard has a lever/knob) a coupla times
2) put choke on full choke
3) give it a hard pull (or sometimes 2 or 3), with half - full throttle, and it should cough and fart a bit. Whilst its coughing and farting, switch the choke to half choke, and give it some gas. If you don't get to half choke it in time, and it dies out:
4) put choke on half choke
5) pull again with half - full throttle, and it should fire up
6) Keep the gas goin (half-full throttle), and let it warm up for a bit
7) Turn choke off, and there ya go

8) Swear cos it just stalled
8) Swear cos it just stalled and is blowing smoke and it stinks and its noisy
9) Sell your two stroke (or give it away) and buy a fourstroke......
10) Turn the key at boat ramp and start engine
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Hi Scott thanks for the help. I should of mentioned its a electric start motor. Sounds like a similar thing though, i always prime it until the fuel bulb is hard and then go for the start. Just takes a while to get going but once its going it starts instantly.
Cheers mate.

Ahaa
Also most 2 stroke elec starts have a choke at the ignition. Push the key in when you start it. The whole ignition barrel should push in a bit,

Theres an idle lever next to the main controls? Would that work the same as a choke?
Thanks again

Sorta,
That's your throttle control, and yes you should have that up a bit when you start it cold, but no, it's not your choke.
I'm sure all ( or nearly all?) 2 bangers have a choke. It starves the carby/cylinder of oxygen (phark knows why that works, but it does). Have you got a manual?
