Where to fish
Submitted by still trying on Mon, 2020-08-17 10:06
Hi all Wednesdays weather looks nice and calm in the evening so I am considering taking my son to the D9. I am a little worried about how many boats are going to be there and if I would be better off trying somewhere less busy. I know it's a wierd question but just looking for opinions either way.

No dought this
We’d/thurs and Friday d9 will be packed. ( night and day) Arguements and all all nice stuff that goes with it . Not for me . Nothing wrong with sticking to outskirts and sounding around . Big handlines . Good luck :)

Thanks little Johnny I am a little worried about lines and all that especially with my son I will give him my bottom bouncing rod so he will have plenty of pulling power but I'm pretty sure a snapper will still give him plenty of trouble and if anyone is near us it could be over. I know it's going to be packed there. I've got spots just out of the sound will probably go there.

Have fished the crowds at D9
Have fished the crowds at D9 a couple times Guy, although many years ago it was during the reports of large schools going through with large numbers of boats bagging out which you dont see so much now days....The one time I did see fish caught there it was a boat on the vary out skirts....after that he had 5 - 10 boats close, pull anchor and move 10 - 15m to get even closer to him than they already were...I shit you not it was funny in a silly way.
Recon most catches there are during the quieter periods with little boats around, I cant see the large hordes of boats there on most evenings doing that well with all the anchor and boat noise.IMO
I recon theirs fish well inside the sound but you'd have better luck keeping distance from the crowds.

Unfortunately
With stuff that goes on nowadays . I wouldn’t take young fella there . I didn’t even go for them last year . I like sounding around crowds 7 times out of ten big schools won’t go through anchors . Get fish and go ( big landlines) no one none the wiser . Keep it simple good luck

I'm silly like that usually hooting and hollering that I've caught a fish. Not a good idea in that situation

snapper
Don't forget the burly. Even in 60 foot of water that will pull the snapper to your boat. Simle one is bread and fish oil then cube mullies over the side in a steady stream. You'll get them if they are in the vacinity.

Thanks for everyone's
Thanks for everyone's replies we headed outside the sound in the end had plenty of space to ourselves, I caught a 62cm snapper also released a undersized one and my son lost his fish, I must of jinxed him as he had it about half way up so I grabbed the net then it was gone, oh well always next time he still enjoyed the action.

He enjoys it don't think
He enjoys it don't think he's as keen as I was at same age, it's nice to just sit out there and spend that time together and try and teach him what I know. He mowed a whole pack of salt and vinegar chips while we were fishing I kept checking sure you don't want a drink.

We tried last night firstly
We tried last night firstly out the north western corner of GI. After getting close to vomit we headed in to the sound, past the 50 odd boats at D9 and tried a bit south for absolutely stuff all.
Cooked a few snags and tried apple pies on the gas cooker which went down a treat as it cold but the fuck all ness is demoralising.
Sounded another three spots between the refinery and the woodies pt ramp as well as the ASI but didn't even get nibbles on the bait. With Occy, herring, whiting, squid and butteries, we didn't lose a bit of bait. That along with 30kg of burley.
The sound is fucked. Build the stupid harbour....
And on that note, I have booked a half day tomorrow and will be back out at lunch with by 3 year old fisher dude to have another crack to break the three year drought.

Headed out at Lunchtime to
Headed out at Lunchtime to Harding rock. Sat there for 4 hours during the peak bite time. Hard to get past the pickers but three skippy and an unstoppable that I suspect was a shark as my 8000 series reel had drag screwed tight and it didn't slow down. Busted 60lb at the knot.
Didnt see any pink fish landed. 8-10 boats on a D9 drive by on the way in and no one looking overly entertained.
oh well, back out tomorrow
