Which is easier pulling pots or diving for crays? *Now with a video*

After a dive on Saturday where we had a big male Western Blue Groper following us around for the entier dive, sometimes I do wonder. I am happy to say I did manage to keep all my fingers intact.

So I have also now added a short video of the dive.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXdWFihJun8

To dive or to use pots

Sun, 2016-11-06 16:29

Simple answer, if you suffer from great white fear use pots, if you don't suffer from great white fear dive.

Sun, 2016-11-06 18:25

Its a SOLA light I use for under water photography, so it has white and red light. I find the red light doesnt disturb the crays as much which does help.

 Awesome video and excellent ground.

Can't say I'm a fan off that brand of noose as the loop seems be more of a oval than a circle when it opens.

MAKO noose for me.

Mon, 2016-11-07 18:11

I can't say the shape of the snare bothers me, however I do like it to come out as close to 90deg as possible .

I find if I bend the push rod (?) while diving and cant straighten it up correctly, like what happed on that dive, that can be a bit of a pain. Part of me was more interesting in having the Groper around, rather then sorting out the snare.

Bluey the crayfish inspector! haha

I'd happily donate the odd cray to see that diving.

As long as they don't mistake one of your fingers for a cray leg.

A couple of times it took more than just the legs off the cray. So yes i didn't want it anywhere near my hands.

Really good vid mate.
Love seeing them whilst having a swim.
Never had one that interested though - would have to watch the fingers!
