Didn't show anything that any other rescue mob do along our coast.

 That's a bit harsh.

These guys do a great job and any publicity is good in my opinion.

I wasn't having a go at you gilly.  I understand your post is directed at ch 7.  My comment was (intended) to be a bit sarcastical and probably failed dismally.....

gilly , id reckon you

Tue, 2014-10-07 20:20

gilly ,

id reckon you should point your ire at 7 if you didn't like the story , not the guys who support WVSR,

they in good faith have gone out of their way to help and support fishos imo and don't deserve your comments nor do they have editorial say on the story

at no point have i bagged the people of sea rescue. yes i said old man shoot (should have explained better) but i also say, show there skills, facilitys, funding and procedures as a possitive.

yes i should have said chanel 7 screwed it up but i didnt, because i believe sea rescue would have seen the final shoot before airing.

Tue, 2014-10-07 20:47

There is so much more ch 7 could have shown about the sea rescue group.

This would be a good story

Tue, 2014-10-07 21:15

This would be a good story and for public information for one of the community TV stations. Unfortunately the Fed gov is cutting them all loose.

Disappointed

Tue, 2014-10-07 22:01

Also disappointed with the storyline and no fault of the volunteers interviewed. Good on all the "Old blokes (and young ones) who love the sea and helping people" for giving up their time..... Just hope I don't need their assistance anytime!

Well fellas

Wed, 2014-10-08 08:48

I'm in training for the Leeman Sea Rescue, on the log on log off mic, hope to hear from you all when I am experienced, so far have only had one training session and loving it. Was a bit disappointed that they didn't show ALL Sea Rescue groups,  as more than just one.

 It's not all old guys

Wed, 2014-10-08 11:24

It's not all old guys either. Younger folk are certainly more than welcome to get involved.

The idea of the article was

Wed, 2014-10-08 11:45

The idea of the article was to show the type of people involved with Sea Rescue and what it takes to be a volunteer.

We spent 3 hours on the water with them and they filmed over an hour. Whilst only a portion was shown at least they were willing to promote the group which in the long run helps with sponsorship. We will also get a copy of all the filming done on the day so we can use it ourselves

We did not get to see it before it went to air

Whilst I am not so young anymore I still work fulltime, have a wife and 3 daughters and currently the Commander of the group.

The biggest issue we have is that when an incident occurs they rarely mention the volunteers who go out save YOUR lives. I was actually told by one reported that unless someone is dying or badly injured they don't want to know. I went out one night to transfer an injured crewman of a trawler 15nm of Mindarie. 2 boats and 8 crew went out in rough conditions, but because his injuries were minor it was not reported

So before you bag channel 7 have a think about when was the last time a TV station promoted the sea rescue volunteers. SES and Fire Brigade are always on just because of a little storm or a search for a missing person.

Same applies

Wed, 2014-10-08 15:48

Same thing applies all the way up and down the coast, if its not sensational news they are not interested and the same goes if their chopper isn't involved.
