Whitworths

So I have been having trouble with my sounder for about 6 months now and this weekend seems to be it for it can't get it to turn on and stay on. Bought a sounder online off of whitworths on special then after sorting it all out realised that you can't put any maps on it so started sending emails to try changing the order to a more expensive sounder another $300. Haven't heard anything from them so thought I'd ring and try get it sorted as soon as I told the guy what was going on he hung up on me, rang back nobody answering the calls now. Cheeky so and so.

Good old Whitworths... the epitome of poor customer service. Try ringing them with a query on any of their products and the standard answer is "you'll need to go onto the website and have a look".

Another time I rang to see if they had a particular item in stock and was advised they had low stock and to pop down and have a look. No kent, I'm not jumping in my car driving 40 mins for something that might not be there.... you get off your arse and go check lol.

 About an hour after writing

Mon, 2020-11-23 13:14

About an hour after writing this thread I got an email that my order is on its way they have sent the original item I purchased, I only have myself to blame I am just too busy at work to go around shop to shop at the moment pretty disappointed. Does anyone know what the garmin striker plus sounder and gps are like? I don't understand the advantage of being able to draw your own maps I can guarantee I'm no captain bloody cook so don't hold much hope.

Did you purchase the striker plus buy.garmin.com/en-AU/AU/p/592116/pn/010-01875-01? If talking Garmin and drawing your own maps, I assume you are referring to Quickdraw, which allows you to record your own contour lines. I've had a garmin with Quickdraw for 3 years and have never used this feature.

I don't have the striker, I have an echomap however it also has active captain and quickdraw. So I can't say for sure, but would be suprised if at least a basic map is not provided with the sounder.

After reading the info on your link I think the unit draws the contours as you pass over areas so eventually you get a map. The echomap was what I was trying to upgrade too. The maps are handy when fishing places you aren't familiar with, like lead lines and stuff but I have navionics on my phone.

Yeah tossing up what to do the cheaper model is a 9 inch screen and I will be using it as split screen mainly so it does have some advantages, I've always got navionics on my phone as well.

Asshats.......

Tue, 2020-11-24 07:08

Last time I was down in the big smoke I had the unfortunate please of having to go to the Mosman Park store. Long story short was me saying to them " I can confirm that what people say online about you guys seems to be true ". The guy asked me " What is that ? ". " You're a bunch of rude arrogant useless assholes " . Red skin against an old mans white beard for the guy behind the counter in the store was pretty impressive!.

BIAS was great, i miss it too, Kim was a great operator but the owner in QLD stuffed the business. Yacht Grot is not bad - they also have a big selection of second hand gear too - found a new chain gypsie there for my winch at around 1/4 of the price of a new one - thumbs up

The Innaloo one is pretty decked out. Doesn't have the range of Whitworths but the staff don't make you feel like you're intruding on their midday nap time.

The customer isn't always right Jack...

I got my sounder yesterday I would say that it was fast service really and now with abit more research have found out how to get maps onto the sounder I won't go into it as it is a long process involving laptops, mobile phones and your sounder.

No connection to All Boats in a business sense but an ex employee who's made the jump and opened a new store to fill the void.

Proper old skool knowledge and service and Ben's willing to spend the time with you to talk it all through and he's left me $2k lighter to finally have the confidence to install a winch.
