Wilson Inlet Snapper

Hey Guys,

I am heading down to Denmark at Easter time and will have the dinghy in tow for the first time.

Last year at the ocean beach camp grounds I noticed a few people cleaning some pan sized snapper that I am guessing came from the inlet.

Is there certain structure in the inlet that you look for when chasing snapper?

Denmark snapper

hi tcarroll last Easter the snapper were in the mouth of the river trying to get out into the ocean and a big school hung around every afternoon and hundreds I mean hundreds of snapper were caught . Speaking to a couple of locals they had told me the snapper don't cook up that well very mushy and taste bland after being in the inlet for 12 months feeding in brackish water they lose condition . After this years rain I think they'd be all out in the ocean already . Your better of catching a few big bull herring from the ocean and then chase some salmon at the end of ocean beach rd past the surf club I think it was called mageries rock or something . I was at the caravan park to last year.

Hey Mykel,

Unsure on this... I believe that a long time ago the size limit for snapper in the inlet was 28cm which was increased to 41cm around 2007 but I am not sure if that was ever increased to 50cm.... Can anybody confirm this?

These snapper definitely did not look to be 50cm but I saw numerous different people cleaning similar sized fish.

No snapper round at present. Salmon are going hard, plenty of skippy, herring etc. Size lmit is 48cm I think. Depending on swell, a small boat a couple hundred metres off the easy beaches have been producing pretty good mixed bags. Bloody Pies supporters hey

oyster lease

On the other side of the inlet is a large area of oyster leases.I anchored just out and cast in towards the racks and got kgs big blue spot flathead and pink snapper. There are often salmon in the inlet and if you find herring they are normally huge. There was quite a few pro netters not sure if they still operate but see what they pull out.The river is good for black bream
