although to be fair he is looking to buy, not sell so technically nothing wrong with the ad. The "seller" on the other hand .....

Poetic licence
There is no marking an ad as sold on Gumtree. When you delete the ad it marks it as sold to make their marketplace look like it gets results regardless of the outcome.

OK, I sent the bloke a
OK, I sent the bloke a message letting him know that it was against the law for someone that is not a pro to sell crays.
He sent back a reply thanking me for pointing it out as he didn't know, he is not into fishing, hence the ad was closed.
More drum lines, kill the bloody sharks!
