That's what I thought
Buy the plastic variety of Ebay, give them just the faintest touch of fishing oil with a small brush. The herring go ape over them and they last forever.
They are as cheap as chips I haven't seen them local but you may be able to get them .

So easy to do a small batch
So easy to do a small batch yourself- A couple of herring heads put them outside, so the blow flies can get to them. Once that happens transfer the lot into small tin for a couple of days, until they get bigger.
When your happy with the size of em, put some pollard into a larger tin/jar. Then place the smaller tin inside the larger/tin/jar cover the whole lot up so it is dark in there for em.
They will eventually crawl out of the small tin into the larger tin/jar and start eating away at the pollard. After a couple of days- nice clean wogs!
Transfer em into a cleaner jar with some clean pollard and put em in the beer fridge so they go to "sleep". Don't do what I did years ago and put them in the family fridge and the buggers somehow go out lol.Never been forgiven!! lol.

Hi Moking, yeah I know how to breed them up, used to do it all the time, but I don't think I could get away with it here where i live, and being a FIFO worker, I can't give the time required to make it viable.

Ok No probs. I used to do
Ok No probs. I used to do large batches but now a small amount is all that I require, and only use these if I'm fishing off the local jetty for a feed of herring.
The herring have been in "plaque" numbers around the reefs. Been getting them on the tailor lure.

Not helping the post at all
Not helping the post at all but my Italian uncle decided he'd get a surfboard to put on top of his car to pickup chicks in down the beach back in the 70's. Says he kept checking the classifieds and most of the adverts decribed the board and said "no dings".
Having enough of the blatent racism he answered one add and grabbed a mate just in case things went south. The transaction went smoothly until he handed over the cash and said something along the lines of "how come you said no dings in your add".
The bloke very quickly pointed out there were no dents in the fibreglass of the board and a huge was shared once my uncle worked it out.

Wogs
I knew there would be a ding joke in there somewhere.
Pretty sure its illegal to farm maggots, but if you're doing it yourself on a small scale you are unlikely to get any objections
Unless yur neighbours are close by and down wind

Coloured maggots (gents)
A while back I was in England and went into a fishing tackle shop, prices where absolutely outrageous. I started looking at these trays and trays of maggots (gents as they call them) in a lot of different colours.
Along comes the shop attendant and seeing me looking at them asks if he can help, I said to him do the different colours make any difference to the catch ability of the fish. As soon as he heard my accent he started to give me the long story about how the different colours played a big part in catching carp.
I then told him I caught about a ton of carp the last time I fished for them, well there was a couple of others customers in the shop who where all talking and on hearing me say that, all the conversation in the shop stopped. yeah right says the shop bloke, true I said to him I was on a mates farm and he had a dam that was being fouled by the carp and he wanted them got rid off, I can do that I said, so the next week I went up to his place tied a stick of An 60 gelignite around a star picket wadded out to the middle of the dam sunk the star picket right down in the mud trailed a bit of explosive cord back to the bank and then set of the cord and the stick of AN 60 gelignite (a mining explosive) after an all mighty bang it rained carp and gilgies for the next half and hour or so it seemed.
After picking myself up of the foot path outside the shop I came to the conclusion the brits take their carp fishing seriously.

Great story
I have spent A lot of time in England as my ex and children were living in Portsmouth for 10 years.Totally love the different angling styles.Met a bloke on a lake with a full on tent and stuff and he had been there all weekend.A chalk stream ran alongside and fed in and out the lake so the odd brown trout would turn up as they are native this chap had caught a massive brown and in disgust had cut it in half and thrown it up the bank.I took it home and it was delicious.he had caught the same big carp twice in one season and was over the moon with that as they have names and stuff.Go fiqure.I did fish a coarse lake in Essex one time not at band camp and hooked a 12 lb mirror carp so I can see what the fuss is all about. Also got a big tench and lots of assorted small stuff like roach and dace.Very pleasant Experience on 10lb nylon and 10 hook with one piece of corn under a pencil float
just do it.
