Woodman Point
I don't know if anyone has posted this info yet, but I picked up the press release from the WA Govt. All the best Colin Hay
31/01/08
Woodman Point will become a major focus for recreational sailors, with four new public boat ramps and boat stacking capacity for more than 300 vessels.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the Government expected to release tenders for building the boat ramps and would invite expressions of interest in constructing and operating a boat stacking facility during February.
Ms MacTiernan said the Woodman Point Recreational Boating Precinct would help meet rapidly growing demand for storage and launching facilities on the metropolitan coast.
“As well as eight boat ramp lanes, a service jetty and the boat stacker, the harbour will offer more than 350 car/trailer bays and additional public car parking.
“Future plans being considered for the precinct include the development of boating related retail space and industrial areas, and possibly the addition of boat pens.
“With the south-west metropolitan population growing rapidly, demand for these facilities can only get stronger.
“Construction of the new boat ramps and car parks could begin as soon as the middle of the year.
“Timing for the boat stacker and associated facilities will depend on the timetable of the successful tender, but obviously we will be favouring proposals that deliver early completion.”
The Minister said the planned expansion would not intrude upon facilities leased and operated by the Cockburn Powerboat Club and an existing boat storage operation.

Yes I did Colin
Yes, I saw that too Colin - sounds like a pretty huge development!
Of course I expect to see the new ramps in the Boat Ramps thread as soon as it's completed - :).

Compromise
Both side of politics are running scared about the original Rous head proposal.....which if it had not been for the Freo Port Authority (and the ferry operators) would have been built by now
The South Beach plan got kicked backed to JC's time by the freo locals so if labor can get the nod with Woodies.....forget about ever seeing a new public ramp facilty close to the mouth of the Swan.....still doesnt solve the issue of no ramps between Woodies and Hillarys.....
What about them spending some money on E Fremantle......that ramp is a disgrace.

Hi Ya, There is always
Hi Ya,
There is always some DH with a gripe about something and a bunch of 'know nothing' rent-a-crowd hangers on. Yes, I know, John Butler started out in Freo but so what.
Cheers.

I think You'd be pretty angry if a boat stacking facility ruined your million dollar views though...

Couldn't agree more Dean - the shore line - sea/river/estuary should all be publically accessable. P*ssed me off how much of the Swan/Canning forshore is gobbled up by 'private property' - with their lovelly superphosphated lawns running right to the water's edge feeding the algael blooms ... etc.
Can't stop 'progress' just because some noveau Lombard has a nice view
- we'll placate them with a nice Trompe de' ole.

just read an interesting
just read an interesting artical in the local cockburn herald,
quote;cockburn boaties fear stackers for 300 plus boats at woodies point will decimate jeroius bay fish stocks.the fishing stocks will get hammered said a local member of the cockburn power boat association, its a natural nursery for marine life and because of the design of the harbour there isnt enough water flushing out of the bay now because there is no natural flow. in december the cockburn sound management group said heavy metals from boat paint was killing sealife.unquote.
apparently alannah mactiernan had a huge 9 emails regarding the the proposal asking whether this will harm the sealife.
well , there ya go , john butler and his merry men will be down there next saying its going to kill the fish.
cant see it getting off the ground , hopefully im wrong.
