Work sucks but this makes it alot easier
Heres some pictures of me and one of the locals taking some time out during our lunch break to go fishing off the rig we work on in west africa. I brought out a 200lb handline for myself which i used for a while before i gave it to old mate so he could have some fun. I use a rod now its a penn 5 piece 24kg travel rod coupled with a fin nor offshore 7500 ( winch of a reel ;) ) and 80lb braid. We mainly fish with jigs but you can use anything really, we've caught mahi mahi on a knife i drilled some holes in and attached some hooks to. I have nearly been spooled a few times with the drag down as tight as i can handle as there is quite a few unstopables out here. Great fun and its normally about a 17 meter drop to the water, so we have to use a landing net fashioned from some instrument tubing and some old rope access rope. Some of the main species we see here are yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, big eye tuna, wahoo, dorado or maha mahi, black trevalley ( i think )and sharks.... many many many sharks with some monster hammerheads in schools of 40 of 50. We have caugth some funky looking fish to..... Put in google LANCET FISH they are a funny looking bastard from the deep water. Caught some squid too of all things to see out here in 2000m of water. The last few days has been epic as the size of the tuna around will certainly give you a run for your money. I have a video of us throwing some lures at some mahi mahi and they are not interested but due to the awesome internet connection i would still be here in 2016 trying to upload it. Anyway hope you enjoy the pics.

On my few trips out to the Nan Hai off Exmouth, I was amazed at the quantity of fish. We were around 40 miles off the NW cape and the fish used it as a fad. Unfortunately it was a no fishing rig.

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

running line gaff
great fish...
Have you tried a running line gaff.
Straight down the line over the head..three hooks in and drag them up.
The rig welder could knock one up in short time

Ha if only
Welding on here is avoided at all costs which is probably the reason i am still here. I have suggested a running line gaff but as soon as safety caught wind of it, it got canned
