you win some you lose some

Went for a fish this morning off some metro rocks. hooked a good salmon that jumped clear of the water about 1 metre away from me. Soon after the line went slack. Thought the line snapped but on closer inspection it looked as if the line had slipped through the top eye of the gang hooks. The knot was still intact and knotted. A bit dissapointed but happy to see I don't need to take the 400km trip down south to get into some.

I found that the salmon
I found that the salmon really test your gear to the limit, I had a set of gangs snap off and only leave the top hook. I guess its good to know that the knots can hold up to the pressure, but its a let down when the gear fails you and you dont really have any control over it.

I make up my own rigs
Using good quality hooks and swivels. A number of the pre-made gangs have flaws and often fail. Salmon and large Tailor will always test your gear and they go hard.

thats the dissapointing
thats the dissapointing thing, I made my own gangs. Got snagged, re-tied on the gear and first cast lost the salmon. Tied on the next gangs and saw I did not close the eye properly. will triple check next time.
