Abrolhos Amber

Abrolhos Amber

The next drop after landing my Trout hooked up and after two screaming runs, chasing all around the boat and 25 minutes later this guy surfaced. We never got a weight but all onboard agreed around the 40kg mark it sure felt like it holding it up.

Great catch. Gotta love the abrolhos. The speckles remind me a bit of a trout (the FW kind)

Bit odd that it has a yellow stripe though. Could be an ambo, but the head does look a bit like a sambo at that angle, Any other shots of it?

Ok I just had a couple of people tell that it's not a Sambo but a Yellowtail King the yellow stripe through the eye apparently is a dead give away. Can any of you guys help me out I keen to know as if it is a King it's the first I've ever landed

Definately not a Yellowtail

Definately not a Yellowtail King. If its not a sambo, then its an amberjack (which also sometimes have a yellow stripe) I was up at the abrolhos this year and there were more ambjerjacks than sambos (incl one 30kg one Surprised).

If i recall correctly, an article in Modern Fishing(I think), sambos/ytk/ambers are able to cross breed? Similar to some Trevs.

Cheers Guys for all the feedback anc comments also helping identify it. From all the info you guys have told me and what I've read up it sounds like it was an Amberjack. Still pretty pumped about landing it.
