Was about 25cm+ mantle length so a pretty big sucker.
Soupster, yeah, unfortunate the camera wasnt just a little lower. Pretty hard by yourself holding the leader, on a rocking boat, dipping your hand underwater without seeing whether you've framed it right while the bobbing of the water is constantly dunking your hand in and out of the water, phew
Will have to try again sometime and hopefully nail the framing next time.
And Jamie, I cant say I like the idea of hopping out of my boat if i'm fishing alone :p.
I'll be able to get it centred next time. Shoulda checked the shots more carefully and redone them. Was a big squid though, so wanted to make sure I netted him. I managed to take a good 10 or so. Some show the squid fully, but they werent as impressive. May be able to come up with a good crop out of them though.
Well done Matt. Agree that with that clarity of focus it has real potential for a cover shot if only it was a little more centred. Still a great pic irrespective.
Camera is a Canon d10. Goes 10m deep and according to the reviews it had the best low light performance (back when I got it late last year). Seems to be pretty good at getting the focus right when I use it underwater too (seeing as its pretty damn hard to check the focus when your dipping your hand in the water).
Takes pretty sharp photos, and focuses pretty well in low light too. On larger images you can see the cloth of the squid jig pretty well (so still sharp in the big pics). I took a bunch of photos while diving at quindalup using only the flash or my dive torch and they came out well. May have to upload some sometime.

Nice pic Matt. A bit lower and it was a front page shot.
