Hi Guys,Sorry to bore you with another sambo post but I have been trying to nail one this size landbased since I started chasing them! Made a promising release after a few pics...was so solid, might have nudged the 40 kg mark...anyway I was super stocked with it and even more happy that I was able to release it!Cheers,Jack

Cheers Guys, The rod is an 8'6 Daiwa monstermesh (PE 6-8).The Van Staal was going well but after the fight I noticed the reel seat attachment thingo had a loose connection with the body of the reel, it's currently at the local reel guru's shop awaiting the rep's attention...bit dissapointing.Yeah slide baiting live herring is the only way to go for the sambo's! Outstanding!
To catch one of these bruisers at this size off the rocks is a huge achievment, one of the best land based catches I've seen.

Thanks for all the reply's
Thanks for all the reply's guys, Yerp that fish was caught a 10 minute drive and a half hour treck from my house in Albany!I was fishing 80lb braid and about 5 metres of 100lb leader, used every bit of power I could, especially once I figured out how big the fish was as there was no way I would have been able to carry the fish out if it had died, the climb down to the ledge is hard enough with a set of rods to hang onto! Is this elidgible for the Junior landbased comp thingo?Jack
