Busselton Toona

Got a bit of a surprise when this smashed and unweighted mulie drifting out the back of the boat down at Busso yesterday. Fish went 8kg and put up a terrific fight in only 13m of water. The photo doesn't really show it but the fins were really bright yellow, is it a bluey or a yellowfin?
Good to get out for a fish with Dan1 after a five year wait too!

I know we're talking
I know we're talking different areas geographically but scroll down the 'Latest Images' and look how similar it is to Adams Longtail. I actually saw this fish after it was caught and didn't think it was a Bluefin. Sushimi was very tasty though! Thanks Mark.

Diff species. Longtails are
Diff species. Longtails are sometimes called northern bluefins, but its not really accurate.
Nice sized SBT. Usually they're only in the 3-4kg mark, but occasionally you see ones double like what you got.
I know what you mean re the yellow fins. They're quite yellow on the fish that size, but whenever you take a photo, the yellow never comes out.

Went pretty hard
Yeh, it pulled pretty hard. At first I called it for a Pinkie, then a Sambo, then a Murray Cod and then I caught a glimpse of it below the boat and called it for a Sambo again. The fish saw the boat and headed towards the bottom again and when we saw colour Dan called it for a Yellowtail Kingie because the fins were just glowing yellow. When I got it to the side of the boat we just looked at each other and said TOONA! Bloody good fun!

Wish I was getting some cash from the government, currently a self funded dole bludger as you know. Better get some work soon I suppose, Kimmies getting sick of me living a life of leisure while she goes off to work. I reckon it's a fantastic arrangement myself :)
Do we get many Yellowfin down this way?

Yep!SBT! Just looked at some pics from when I worked on a Tuna boat many moons ago. Think Dan1 is now hooked on sushimi! I'm about to cook those Tuna steaks you gave me and salivating just thinking about it! Have you tried it yet Mark? Just looked at the water temps. off Busselton yesterday and were in the 23 - 24C range.

Bluetonic .. the best i got
Bluetonic .. the best i got 2 weeks ago was 10kg ... but most are around the 4-6kg mark .. still great fun on the light trolling gear, the best lures ive used this year are small skirts from richters (dorado's) in a blue over pink ... the metal jet heads have been going very well too.
