Dampier Archipelligo overnight trip

Dampier Archipelligo overnight trip

Myself and my workmate decided to do an overnighter a couple of weeks ago, as wind conditions of late have hampered any chances of having a decent fish out wide. Both armed with braided Tyrnos 30's (2-speed), we bottom bounced at the 50m mark. We were lucky enough to have major success on every pass over a productive patch. A well earned rest on one of the Islands was required and then managed to sneak in a morning session before heading home. Highlight of the trip was my mate landing a 35-40kg Cobia, big enough to snap the gaff in half!!!

Nice bag of fish Brynner! How far offshore is the 50m mark at Dampier?

Not too far. No less than an hour from the boat ramp, land is still clearly visible.

Sacrified some fresh fillets

Sacrified some fresh fillets (flag and mackerel). Didn't get a chance to get a photo of the Cobia. Tried to pull it through the back of the boat, it was all hands on deck and very hard being dark. Biggest I've seen for years, thought in was a big bronzie at first. Would have been a good photo then quickly released.
