Yellowfin Bream

Mon, 2007-08-20 07:58

Look at the size of those yellowfin bream! And all the oldies complain about not being able to catch them at the new size limit of 350mm. I need to print this photo out, even though it is a little dated. :)

I know where that Is

Mon, 2007-08-20 15:47

If it is where I Believe it is, It is where Ive caught heaps of big yellows and pinks and not far from where some of the biggest tailor you have ever seen has been caught.
I believe that you are on the right track NOHA, SB, road that crosses the salt ponds on route to steep and falseys.  it makes for a good day trip out of Denham if you dont have a boat and fishing the Clough's bar is great (just dont get caught I think that its private), Just berley up and whammo.

Hey Mav am I right?

Biggest Yellowfin out of there had the fisheries inspector thinking it was a good size pinky till he checked it out propperly ( must of been us laughing that tipped him off) biggest Tailor out of the ponds for me was 8.4 kilo's back in the 80' and early 90's,
biggest Tailor from False was around 7 kilo's no pics as we never kept them after tasting the first big one we caught , even fresh out of the surf and onto a BBQ plate within 20 mins and it was crap , but those Yellowfin brim were tasty indeed .

I have done over 30 trip up that way starting in '81 until they closed the bar and built the new one ( right over our never fail , every trip , super Snapper and Mulla spot about 200 m off shore ) I havd done Steep point another 19 trips as well and last trip to Steep point was in 2003 , don't think I'll be going back in the near future tho , TOOOOOOO comercialised .

Salt ponds ,

Mon, 2007-08-20 19:12

Them Salt Ponds were like shooting fish in a barrel , a 6 km long 3 km wide barrel .

Back in the 80's EVERYBODY stopped off there to catch a tailor or 2 on the way into Steep point

Cloughs

Tue, 2007-08-21 10:14

I remember in the old days (prior to the closing of the causeway) that if we had a shithouse week at the point we could always come away with a good feed from Clough's fishing the gates on the in coming tide. that is until some dhead opened the gates and wrecked it for the rest of us.

IF IT BLEEDS,.........WE CAN KILL IT.
