Hey checked out the vid. So cool. That's what i wanted to do, but ended up bringing popping gear instead, which was good as it was windy like mad and my handling is no where as near as you guys.
Which side were you guys on? I fished both sides quite a bit but the wind was howling bad on the West. And what type and size fly worked best. Also what lines were you using? May give it another solo shot next year and hopefully be half as successful as your group.
Only ran into one other guy trying to fly fish too.
Looks like everyone to fishes Exmouth has a great time!!!
yeah...was a very nice trip and we caught lots of fish... but the wind was blowing hard all the time up to 30 knots... no perfect conditions for fly roders... hooked some GT's as well but could land just some smaller ones, the bigger ones stucked into the corals...
the most difficult thing was to find them, also sight fishing was difficult because of the waves and the speed of the queenies. but lots of fun!
we have fished around exmouth from wapet creek up to the wreck road and spend a lot of time in the cape range park.
already started to plan another trip, like to hire a boat to cover more area. does anybody know when the conditions are best because of the wind?
Will hit up more of the East maybe next time. It was just too much ground for one person to cover. And I wouldn't go places I couldn't crawl out by myself if I got into trouble. I checked the map and I can't believe I walked that much.
Didn't see many GTs, only on two days was I sure I saw them. But they were really far out circling the reef even on a popping rod. Did you see any on the flats? The flats were poor fishing for me.
It was a recce trip for me and the scenery was so stunning sometimes i just didn't need to catch fish. Will try to cover maybe less ground next time. And will bring a fly rod. #8s good enough? And what flies should I bring?
I was told wind dies down and fishing is best March to July, which is the busy season for that reason. Lighthouse said booking is necessary if staying there as they will be full some days - can't remember the month. And in the Parks, you can't camp at a site that is full, so you can't decide to enter the park and camp at any site as it is now - loved it so much right now that i'm not sure i want to be there at busy season.
Haven't planned another trip yet, but I know I'll be back. Someone should have warned me that Exmouth is addictive.
Can you maybe pm me on the ideal tackle. I'll maybe sell what I don't need - to help fund the next trip.
I was up there and managed to wave the wand once. What fly where you using.
No luck on the flats on the Gulf side with Big Crazy charlies and clousers. But I have to admit I only tried for about 2hrs. After that the wind and arm made it to difficult.
Up in Kcity havent fly fished with casting for some time. Just short false cast and let the fly drift down with some very lazy strips, and bang. Something hits it but usualy a NW snapper.
Cheers and what a great picture and a beautiful fish.

Great fish! And the video
Great fish! And the video you put up was very good too. I like the way you folks handle the fish that you are releasing - very gently.
