Preparing / cooking hapuka
I don't know how you prepared the hapuka however I would suggest you try scaling the fish and cut into steaks / cutlets and shallow fry. Magic!!!
Well done on scoring a few to btw.

Releasing harpuka.
How did the small ones go that you released? Is there a size limit on harpuka?

no size limit on harpuka
i was quiet surprised with how easily they swam off with only one needing the release weight to swim and he took off after only six metres! the others couldnt get back to the bottom quick enough!

Thanks
I remember reading some where that they think small harpuka are more pelagic before settling down as they get bigger. Makes sense then the smaller ones would swim off ok.

Puka is excellent
Plenty of red in the flesh but it makes no difference to the taste.
