Caught this guy off Scarbs this morning. About 35 cm and dark brown in color. Anyone know what it is?

Red eye
Looks like a sand bass to me as well, cannot see the give away red eye though

Yeah, our mates thought sand
Yeah, our mates thought sand bass but didn't really look like the photo we saw showing a sand bass. When it came over the side it had the look of a barra but knew that couldn't be right. It did have red eye though.

I fish for them when I am in Carnarvon at the boat harbour waiting for my man to park the car and trailer.Always get 2-3 in the 5 min I am waiting and yes they do look like barra fresh out the water

We would call these night barra in Darwin, but it is a sand bass
