I notice your jig is rigged with a stinger (tail) hook. Most guys who jig for samson fish over here use an assist hook rigged from the head of the jig.
Fredo, can you tell us a bit about the tackle you guys are using? (rods, reels, braid)
Salut les gars! (Hi guys, in french)
Thanks for your comments, i caught this amber last week (oct 6th) afer a 20 minutes tough fight. Jeje's fish was not so healthy, she gave up after 10 minutes...
You're right Big John, it was caught with my tail assist hook (shout power assist 7/0). It's risky because of the sea bed relief but it helps sometimes!
Big amberjacks's season will end soon when water's temperature drops down, they're feeding between 100 and 280 feet around submarine plateau and peaks. We spent a lot of time studying maps and searching with the sounder and in august we caught our first amber! Our spot is now grabbed by others but that's fishermen life!
My rod is a zenaq 53 12 (like Jeje) and i use saltiga 6500 expedition or stella 10000 reels, power pro 36/100 braid. This tackle is highly appreciated for big ambers when some guys are helpless to stop them, for ambers between 30 and 60 pounds, a lighter tackle provides more fun.
Unfortunetly my mermaid was not on the boat and Jeje gaffed it for me, for that job (only for that job), he is more efficient than her!!
FREDO
I need to speak you in english and I think we ll be able to work during our next fishing session.
Firstly, I would like to precise to Andy that I never be the Fredo's mermaid, and I hope that you don't want a photo of me in the same "position" that the fredo's mermaid photo" hahaha!!!
This amberjack was a real pleasure for me to see my friend fighting her. congratulation my fredo. you was perfect.

Great fish Fredo!!!
Do these fish school up in big numbers for you over there?
Also, do they have structure on the bottom that they hang around or are you jigging on featureless ground but with fish on the sounder?

Great Fish Fredo!
Did you get one of your mermaids to gaff it for you?
Top effort you look absolutely knackered (tired). Hope that translates into French OK.
Cheers
