great KG!
Great KG Andy, what sort of depth are you pulling those from. I only normally get the smaller ones just over size as can't get out far in the tinny!

In the 40's
Usually we get them as by-catch when fishing for Dhufish and Snapper. They tend to sit on the edges of lumps, so hard to really target them without picking up a load of rubbish fish in the process. If I was more confident in anchoring in 40+m of water then I might try a bit harder, but I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't chuffed with landing a few of these as "by-catch".
We manage one or two every couple of trips. The key for us is we use a smaller hook on the bottom part of the two hook snells, 7/0 and 10/0 so it is capable of picking up the smaller fish like the KGs without reducing your hook power on the bigger fish where the larger size 10/0 hooks come into play.

Will give it a try
Next time I'm out with a mate I will give the 7/0 and 10/0 a crack. Are you using smaller bait on the 7/0 for the KG. Never given deep water fishing much of a go yet but am ready to catch some new species.

Whole californian squid
We put the smaller hook between the eyes and the larger one through the mantle.
