Saltwater saw one in the week before. Got to see it really well too. Apparently lots up north of Dampier and the like. Maybe the warm currents that bring the mackies and dollies and the like down also bring basking sunfish?
As for the calmness. The water was pretty good conditions, but some good thinking by Tony made it a lot clearer (oil in a spray bottle). Wasnt quite a glassoff though (except locally thanks to the oil ;) )
I've come across a sunfish in South Aust out from Pondalowie Bay (bottom of Yorke Penisula). Pretty rare in SA from what I gather> I think one was also caught in the water intake for the Port Augusta Power Station a few years back. They get quite a few odd catches around the power station at times mainly due to being at the top of the gulf with warm shallow waters (made slightly warmer by the power station) occasionally get schools of dolphin fish come through some years. Dollies are otherwise not generally caught in SA.
