Pictured above are 15 year old Sara Hayward and siblings, crowding around a Wahoo that Sara caught off Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, Mexico. The fish weighs a whopping 184 pounds. That's not just 30 pounds more than the record, that's 50 pounds more than she herself weighs

I'm going for the record

Coral sea carnage begins in 11 days......The last group that fished wreck reef reported - in 2.5 days fishing we released around 250 wahoo, with the standard size being 30-40kgs. We figure there were around 1000 bites/hookups in this time, and fishing with spin gear, jigs, stickbaits and poppers was some of the most exc iting fishing any of us had ever seen.

It was common to see wahoo hit a surface lure and rocket 10 feet out of the water. Kenny from Malaysia was lucky to be in one piece when a 40kg wahoo nailed his stick bait at the boat and rocketed head first into the motor cowling, missing his feet by about 30cm!!!

The method of fishing was to troll deep minnows, or anything actually, then as soon as you hooked up just stop the boat and start casting stick baits and jigs. Most of the time we couldn't troll more than 2 minutes without hooking up, it was truly the wahoo bite of the century.

just hope the weather gods are kind to us Adam..... at the time we are going, there is a fishing closure on the reef for Queensland waters....which means we have to go to the Coral Sea Atolls, which are outside....I have built a large mound of lures....and marlin fever in starting to kick in...

You lucky bastard all the same! Sure you will find the fish somewhere, that marlin fever is certainly a hard one to quell.

Looks like its a blow up inflatable pool toy. The skin is so dry, I don;t know if I would be looking to eat that one, looks like its been in the sun for a fair while.

Fantastic capture all the same and would have made that young girl's day for sure.

Cheers

Andy Mac
