Nailed this Golden Trevally on a 150g sea rock today. Next drop, lost it to a mackie! I'll be using wire trace from now on.

way to go jay!! Get some
way to go jay!!
Get some unrigged jig assist hooks like decoy or owner, some figure 8 crimps and some single strand wire to make up your own wire assists
but you'll have to use a lacky band to hold the hook along side the jig hooked over the bottom ring so it dosent swing straight up and foul hook your leader

Good onya Jay
Beautiful conditions by the looks. Those Goldens go hard too, so would have been fun nailing one on a Jig.
Cheers

Yeah I hooked a bigger one
Yeah I hooked a bigger one just before this but it wasn't hooked properly and consequently I lost it. It pulled a bit of string but not much of a match for the stella. Can't wait to get some of their bigger brothers.

IF
If the fish are taking the assist hooks you could try using swivels and splits to do the job , split ring on the jig then a large swivel then another split on the bottom of the swivel then another split then another swivel then another split ring then put the hook on the end of this , works well if their bustin' you off with the kevlar, as for leader I recon some single strand would be the go there.
Hope that helps if you ever need it .

Doesn't matter Adam, they were just small pesky spotted macks.
Mav, wasn't running an assist hook. I got busted off on the leader.

Jay lets us know how ya go
Jay lets us know how ya go with wire, we found our catch rates dropped dramatically but still caught, Mav is on the money using swivels. and if you are chasing mackies on jigs it pays to put another assist hook on the bottom as well fro other fish this isn't so friendly. Wait until one of those extra large GT's grab it, don't let him go home to mumma other wise you will loose a jig
We have lost count on the species that nail jigs off Dampier, probably the only thing we haven't got is stick faces

PS Delambre or Legendre in the back ground Jay just a guess

Yeah GT is high up on the list Honsu, looked like there was some good ground for throwing poppers.
Thanks for the advice Wally & I'll make sure I provide feedback with the wire. It's Legendre in the background.
