Need help to identify this trev...

This was caught a couple of years ago. I've never been certain on the identification. It was caught off point samson and they were in absolute plague proportions at this spot on this particular day. Personally I think it looks like a GT but I've never seen GTs with yellow fins before.

Looks like a big eye trevally

Jay,

I am not certain by any means, but it looks like a big eye trevally to me. We caught quite a few bludgers on our recent trip to Exmouth and it looks similar to those too, but I am no fish id guru, that's for sure. Maybe someone like Ryan or Matt K will have a more positive id for you.

Cheers

Andy Mac

interesting... definately not a bludger though. Bludgers are more elongated and have more of a silver colouration with small black dots.

It's a Brassy IMO

Tue, 2006-08-22 18:38

That's a Brassy Trevally IMO, they've got yellow fins where the Bigeye doesn't and the Bigeye is all black/silver mix with a white tip on the dorsal....that fish doesn't!

The white patch on the lower lobe of the tail also gives it away as a Brassy!

Cheers
