Yep

Pretty much a game fish in SA and chased on light mono quite often. Lots of open space in Whyalla without structure and relatively shallow which makes it a bit easier.

Heres the ANSA SA records. The 1kg record would take some beating.

SPECIES      LINE   MASS     ANGLER        LOCATION       DATE
Snapper         1  10.95  J.Ware                 Whyalla         18-May-86
                     2  14.00  S.McKenzie          Whyalla         19-May-91
                     3  14.01  P.Grzona             Whyalla         13-May-89
                     4  16.40  A.Hall                  Whyalla         05-Dec-90
                     6  15.90  Geoff Verrall        Outer Harbour   03-Sep-97
                     8  14.35  A.Hall                  Whyalla         18-Nov-90
                    10  16.20  M.Noble              Whyalla         24-Nov-90

Easter Snapper weekend -Steel City 2009

Mon, 2008-11-24 20:56

I have dreamt about doing another trip to chase steel city snapper in the Spencer Gulf.....did a charter on K&R last year....(stayed at the pub and they picked us up)we got fish around the man made structure to 9kg....no stallions like the picture posted or the many others you can find if you google Steel city snapper.....

Believe it or not the shallow flats of the spencer has big tides.....water has to travel a long way so there is heaps of current to deal with....the tyre reefs worked for us....heaps of KG as well which I think most local fishers there preferred to eat?????

There is a big annual snapper comp on the easter weekend....I always thought it would be a great trip to organise with a few people to go do.....just for fun....and to see another fishing HOTSPOT

Moota is a very cool place on the other side....nice place to stay with the family...old cornish coal town

anyway enough dribble....big snapper dijl

Cuttlys

Did you have a swim with the cuttlys while you were there Andrew. Major spawning grounds for them around Whyalla and out around the Lighthouse at Point Lowly.
