Ray returned!

Yip all the way, just wish I had a tagging kit, Between my son and I we release 90% of our catch. It would be nice to be able to contribute to the  fish conservation effort.

Ray size?

Sun, 2010-02-07 19:52

Was not able to weigh it, except for the spine which was 43cm long. Did not want to stress it out more than needed! Mandrah, white dunes.... loads of other smaller rays. It pays to have a decent sice circle hook. they dont miss.

next time u get a nice size flat fish like that - get the measurements across the wing span(dont go over the top, just draw the lines on the sand, release her and take the measurement) and correct species and i'l get the weight for u , give me guess length if u can.

Tricks of the trade Boet!

Sun, 2010-02-07 20:04

Rod was a 3 piece Poseidon rod, Grand wave fishing reel with synergy compo line, 15.9kg

Bait was a hering half body, leader was 35kg soft pink line used on the commercial boats in SA. 8'0 Circle hook with a 8 onz slide sinker. Casted out about 100m.

We were trying for Bronzy's but only ray's that day! good fun, ray was released no problem.
