You must be worried if you've stooped to this level Till.

I'm looking forward to devouring some quail at the federal election.

Bye, bye, Labor!

I don't think there is anything particularly untrue in the image.

Stooping? Na, not down as far as the tedious menu jokers.

Frankly I don't especially care for either of the major parties though at least only one wants to take us back to 1950.

I've worked for everything I've got, never had a government handout, and my two daughters are proudly starting on that road as well.

I won't be voting Labor, but then again, my hands firmly in my pocket.

You keep voting Labor no matter what, I understand though, I'll always support Collingwood no matter what.

Til didn't the menu turn out

Sat, 2013-06-15 07:20

Til didn't the menu turn out to have been written by the restaurant owner as a joke and not presented to the dinner?
I also belong to a union/professional association-but the worst outcome of all would be an overwhelming majority on either side.

Remember Til, blind faith is dangerous on either side.

Rob, I don't believe that thing about the restaurant owner for a second, he was just brought out to carry the can. Why else would Brough apologised from the outset?

I've always had limited faith politicians of any persuasion and it is somewhat of a low ebb ATM right round the board.

Best not to consider me pro-Labour, but certainly anti-conservative and anti-Liberal.

Labor has exactly pretty much exactly the same policy that Johnnie did when he was in. Can you explain how they're going to stop the boats without breaking international law?

Abbott said they were going to turn them back to Indo, Indo said - like f**k you will, and it's also against international law.

Ditch the UN Refugee Convention might be a good start and do we really need to be in possession of Xmas island which is only a short distance from Indo .. Other than that we may as well cut out the middle man and cash in ourselves with a ferry service .

Have you ever thought that the money we pay in foreign aid might be insurance against the "others" deciding they might as well take what they want if they are not helped a bit. To stop the boats I think the answer is to give Christmas Island to the Indos for a hundred years, they would welcome the boats in a much different way I'm sure.

Sat, 2013-06-15 10:44

it is a collection of ex union no hopers [ 70% ] that run is shit party. They have no idea how to run this country and prooved this by always producing budget deficits of billions of dollars. By the time the next election come around the deficit will be in excess of FOUR HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS. They past the 250 mark a long way back uncle.

We have no money but she is still spending our kids future No f*ck this party they are worst government this country has had second on the list was the last labour party. This mob have only once produced a budget surplus in their history. [ keating ] How bad is that ? and by the time the election is held we and our children... because it will be our children who will be paying for this shit for who knows how many years to come. Might be decades.

Only Abbott and Hockey are capable and hard nosed enought to turn things around but it is going to hurt real bad thanks to gizard and lame duck swan

And by the way we didn't vote for her to be our PM the unions gave her to us. Thanks very much you dick heads. Over and out.

Feminism: if you even knew

Sat, 2013-06-15 11:28

Feminism: if you even knew what this was it would surprise me. Do you really think that there are any reasons why women should not expect to be treated as equals? If so, why?

Reverse Sexism does not exist: to quote; ``sexism = power + prejudice based on gender'' and the + power aspect. Proven beyond reasonable doubt with the recent menu and gay husband comments.

Failed border protection: again, the reason people come to aus, is that despite the rednecks that would like it to be different, it sucks less than the places people are leaving.

Debt? Actually the lowest levels in the G20 IIRC: all from the #1 peforming economy in the G20.

Union =! Labor, so what about fraud?

Can you explain how sex scandals are related to the labor party? Or are they all just the Labor Party's fault, as they happened while they were in government.

Carbon Tax: ahh it is already working to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions. Don't let the facts get in the way of a good winge though; Carbon tax contributes to an emissions drop

Tax on workers (men and women?): do you think that the libs will tax them less? They want to tax companies less, not people.

The rest of your post just makes me sick to my core. I'm embarrassed to share a country with people that are so egocentric and frankly, so conned.

jeez Til, this is a fishing forum, you really need to go easy a bit on the aggressive rhetoric and perhaps get some perspective.
In reality the best and worst of our politicians are way above what most of the rest of the world has to put up with, and us in both Aus and NZ have the best version of democracy, in as much as it can exist in real life.

Everyone is allowed to have their political view and vote accordingly without fear or favour. But two things get up my nose
1/ Other peoples views rammed on me with agro and personal jibes added
2/ People expressing a political viewpoint/opinion coupled with "na I don't vote-waste of time"

Tell me about it.

This site is perennially loaded with tired right wing rhetoric, usually not even that, just the same old anti-reffo, anti-dole bludger, anti-green shtick that people learned to copy from the current right-owned media.

I personally find it very offensive. I don't know how or when it became so acceptable to hate thy neighbour, but then capitalism is everyone for themselves isn't it, and that is the poison we preach around there here parts. Maybe that comes though in the replies a little, though the difference being is that I tend to back up my replies with some fact.

And yes I am a small business owner. Tax is fucked but we all have to pay it. And it was Liberal here recently that has done a backflip on lifting the threshold on payroll tax. I'm a swing voter and make my judgements on policy merits.

I am so sick of it!

I contribute over $80k in taxes every year, and it all seems to be blown away by the government.

Why not support the Aussie first?

Why are pensioners shivering in their homes, too broke to eat properly or cant afford heating?

Why do illegal immigrants get free housing / mobile phones / free medical care etc, while the locals get shafted?

There was an interview on ABC the other day with a Victorian Health official stating they cant afford the high cost of the illegal immigrants.  He said "Can you imagine what it costs to supply dental work to a 16 yo boy from Africa?"

I'm guessing, the cost would be over $20k.  (of course the dentists are gonna rort the government similar to the dodgy "Pinks Bats scheme" and "School Halls" fiasco.

I pay mega taxes, yet if my kids need dental work I will have to fork out more money.  Some foreigners waltz in the back door and get everything for free!

Actually I was a small business owner for most of 2000-2010. I shut the business because it never really recovered from the GFC, something I am sure you guys will tell me is Labor's fault, either that or the Greens.

Free housing? Yeah, a tent camp on xmas island, and detention facilities around the country, not exactly what I would call plush?

The only refugees that get a free mobile phone are unaccompanied minors. Rest assured it is a cheap moto, no a smartphone.

Its for such a totally pissant number of people, I can't believe you would even complain about it. Are you one of these muppets that forward that bogus email around about how refugees get twice as much as the pensioners do?

I noticed you were completely incapable of addressing my replies to any of the points you raised earlier.

Shouldn't this belong in the

Sat, 2013-06-15 16:02

Shouldn't this belong in the Political and Environmental Issues section?

I thought that's the section where people can raise these sorts of issues and discussions then try to push their ideals onto others or berate others who don't share their same view?

All I know is I don't vote for a party because of its leader, or one MP, or one of their policies, or how the media try's to portray them as heros or villians, or because "I have always been a X supporter".

The greatest assest that ALL Australian Politicians have in winning Aussie votes is that we are so ingrained at looking at only one or two issues or policies at a time, that they can slip all sorts of other things/policies under the radar, or just flat out don't go through with 'promises' once in power. That's what you get in a country where people are too compliant I guess.

Or it even still amazes me how many people vote on the belief that they are voting the actual Prime Minister into office! Like "oh I don't like the leader so I wont vote for them". This isn't a republic we don't vote our leader into office, we vote their party into office then their party votes them into being their leader!
*just a heads up if you are one of those that don't know. All my mates at work didn't know this :O

without a shadow of a doubt, the libs are going to win the federal election, and there is likely to be fuck all labour left in wa. Doesn't matter what shit you put up on here, you are now part of the dwindling minority.

Rudd is australias luckiest pm ever, having stepped into that job with as much money in the bank as the howard government left them with. Like a teenager with an unlimited credit card, they blew the lot, and racked up the biggest debt Australia has ever been in. Regardless of where we are on the worlds debt list, we are now in debt, when we weren't before.

You were pretty quick to drop your daks and spread your cheeks with the new marine park debate, claiming that we shouldn't fight it, and just accept it was going to happen. Maybe now is another one of those times to get yourself ready for another good ol' fashioned dry dickin.

The government went into debt

Sat, 2013-06-15 16:44

The government went into debt to provide services and jobs for people in Australia, during an international downturn.

You would be the same dickhead bleating about no jobs, or no services, if they didn't.

Howard got his money selling assets! That is where the money everyone enjoyed came from.

http://www.finance.gov.au/property/asset-sales/past-sales.html
http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/1359493/the-truth-about-howards-inherited-debt/

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) examined 200 years of government financial records across 55 leading economies.

The study found Australia’s most wasteful spending took place under the Howard-led Coalition rather than under Whitlam, Rudd or Gillard Labor governments.

The IMF identifies two periods of Australian “fiscal profligacy”, both during John Howard’s term in office – in 2003, at the start of the mining boom, and during his final years in office between 2005 and 2007.

According to Tony Abbott, these were the “Howard golden years”. Mr Abbott recently said “prudent fiscal management is in the Coalition’s DNA”. The facts suggest otherwise.

I'm still no opposed to parks, better than the fish get left alone than sold off to some liberal party mate for cheap.

If the Carbon Tax has made a

Sat, 2013-06-15 16:26

If the Carbon Tax has made a slight change to Australias emmisions, that is great.  However it is not gonna make any difference to the GLOBAL picture.  China, USA India etc are huge polluters compared to Australia.

If Global Warming is man made, then there is very little chance it is going to be halted in the near future.

What does the Government do with the Carbon Tax $$$$????  Probably give it to another country.

If the "science" is 100% accurate, then we are going to have rising sea levels.  Maybe the money should be spent preparing for the inevitable.  Better start filling sand bags or relocating our cities inland a bit?

I hate pollution.  I am all for helping the environment, but cant see how making fuel / electricity / everything more expensive to Australians is going to make any difference on the global scale.

I think the government has wasted so much money on their failed ideas, they are inventing all of these taxes / levies / fees just to try and dodgey up the books a little bit more than they already have.

We will find out the real extent of our debt after the election in September.

What are you talking about?

Sat, 2013-06-15 17:05

What are you talking about? Per capita, Australia is the worst emitter in the whole world.

Now, don't tell me you're old enough to have children of your own, yet you bleat childish rubbish like ``but he started it'', ``mummy, they did it first/worst/more''? If something is right, you just do your bit to help and hope the rest of them work it out.

Oh and when you say if, can you name a single peer-reviewed scientific article that seriously doubts whether or not climate change is happening? Or are you just parroting crap they tell you on Murdoch-owned news?

Just in case you are genuinely interested in becoming informed, you could read about Naomi Oreskes. In case you have a short attention span, try and focus on this brief excerpt; (of 928 published, peer-reviewed scientific essays, she says) ... After the analysis, she concluded that 75 percent of the examined abstracts either explicitly or implicitly backed the consensus view, while none directly dissented from it.

There are non so blind as those who do not want to see. Non of the keyboard warriors will look at facts, it shows their statements to be so hollow. Since the time of federation most budgets of all parties have been in the deficit for those that are sceptical do a bit of research

Managing our little bit of CO2 emissions will do fark all compared to the bigger countries in the world, it will make you feel warm and fuzzy though.

Correction noted Matt.

But the science still adds up in my favour.

No it doesn't.

It shows that on a per-capita basis, Australians are very poor global neighbours.

It's this ``everyone for themselves'' attitude from the libs that really grates on me. Its almost as ludicrous as the ``lets for vote for whomever my boss votes for'' that johnnie pulled over workers' eyes years back.

What it shows is that our emissions are a small dip in the global ocean of emissions, we could reduce ours by 50% and the effect will be neglible as China, India (which hasn't really cranked up its industrialisation yet), the US etc. don't have an emissions trading scheme.

Who's suffering? The aussie taxpayer (not the aussie perennial university student) who's power bill etc has risen significantly.

Quick poll - Who's power bill hasn't gone up significantly in the last 18 months?

We're great global neighbours, just ask all the countries that are receiving handouts from our tax dollars. FMD, that is one of the worse things I've read on here.

Ahh sigh, that old chestnut

Ahh sigh, that old chestnut again.

Australia is one of the lowest contributors of foreign aid in the G20 at 0.29%. Sweden is the highest at 1.45%.

Money that Australia spends on foreign aid is money spent by Australia often to do things like improve the way of life in other countries, IN AN ATTEMPT TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF REFUGEEES. Something you guys also like to grizzle over.

I can assure you that as a student I enjoy a special price at yoga, but I don't receive Austudy, or get a special rate on my power bills.

But, seeing as you do mention powerbills. In WA they went up 57% between 2007 and 2012, and since that just 8% because of the carbon tax. You might also like to know that the Barnett Govt chose to increase the business tax by a negligible amount over the last period, shunting the costs onto the residential users instead.

Emissions

Weren't we also discussing the useless nature of Australia having an emissions trading scheme when most of the world doesn't?

I'd take 8% of my bi-monthly $800 power bill back quite happily.

$384 would buy a few nice things for the tackle box.

I thought you guys would like that? You get to pay less for the carbon credits when the price trades freely in 2015. Can't see it being a big deal either way, the whole point is you pay what they are worth.

Little Johnny gave us all tax cuts when everything was booming and now that the mining revenue has dropped right down there isn't the fat left in the system to support the commitments.
Sure as eggs you will see tax increases if Abbott and his cronies get in and lets see who screams that they didn't vote for him when the really did.

recipiants of tax payer monies support the labour party, that says a lot about them doesnt and its this crowd they look after. Libs look after hard working people who take chances to improve their lot

Takers vote labour

Doers vote Lib/Nats

And yes we probably will be taxed more one way or another by Abbott

How else can they pay off this mess left to them .

He will start by getting rid of the b/s carbon tax that gizard promised not to give us and won the last election on.

For as long as I can remember, Labour = Gross National deficit, Lib = recovery or surplus. When was the last time libs have left the country in deficit, and when was the last time labour has left a surplus. (I am aware of Keating)

Till your headline above says "Wake up Australia". I think it is " Till we Wake up Australia". And luckily most off us have.

Good hearted banter and entertaining I say

But not one mention from the pro libs about the recent actions the state Libs are bringing in already.

Didn't anyone see the 1200 public sector jobs to go......

Keep it up lads :)

My brother in law has gone to work for the water board for 42 years and is stoked at this offer as he will pick up he says $198000 in the best golden hand shake I have seen. The odd thing about it is he has hardly done a days work in all those years. Just bludged on us long suffering tax payers. And guess who he votes for ?

What is your opinion on "asylum seekers"

Sat, 2013-06-15 18:51

getting status because they are in danger in their home country yet they go back and visit family when they want Till? They should not be allowed to travel back for a set amount of time if they are in danger. They fly to Indo then all seem to loose their passport while on the way over in the boat. Will be lucky if Labour has a party after September and the Greens will struggle to get things through when the Shooters and Fishers hold more seats.

Sat, 2013-06-15 20:23

the only thing ive enjoyed about Juliar is her getting hit by a sandwich, cracked me up.......

personally dont trust any politicians, they all lie to get what they want in the end...

.im not from these shores, but i always saw australia as extremely self sufficiant country, we have fantastic farms, agriculture, best seafood, resources galore.

so lets stop importing shit cheap crap from china, and rely on getting things made here in ausralia, lets be self sef suffcient again,

and one thing i think its great is that you aussies are proud of your country, i love that u have your flag and made in aus on your products.....

i just hope this country doesnt go to the dogs like my motherland has sucumbed too lately....

anyway dont even know where my rant is going, blah blah.

everyone has a right to their opinion and everyone should not feel pressured to vote for him or her, just do whatu feel is right for the long term goal.....

shall we talk cricket instead???

yes i am a pom..

It would appear till is headed for honours in the form a political science degree. maybe try running for a local seat if you're so sure of yourself and your ideas. people are allowed to express their views on here without being called 'dickheads, muppets, bogan army' by you.
Your username name should be TOOL, not till.
And before you accuse me of being a mindless sheep or bogan I have multiple degrees and an MBA but I don't feel the need to abuse to fellow forum users and ram my political views down their throat. Why don't you go fishing or do something useful. I'm with Rob H.

It is always, all in the detail;

I asked if someone was a muppet.

I was just invited to suck shit by someone, and I called him a dickhead, so what of it?

But as you like the name calling, ie; tool, why don't you just DIAF ;)

I'm disinterested in politics. I think it is the lazy way of seeking change, it's giving away your own personal responsibility to let other people make your choices for you.

But when you have people that think it is a legitimate activity to ridicule the PM on the basis of sex or appearance, I don't think I should just ignore it either.
