Tuna abound

Tuna abound

Went out with Bouttime and Adam on the Wednesday morning and we decided to troll to see what turned up.Not long into it we managed to see a couple of tuna breaking the surface and launching into the air.As we came past the general region we had a double hook-up and pulled in a couple of bonito.Continued trolling and found a huge swarm of birds that were activly feeding on the surface.Trolled around the edges and had several 3 way hook-ups with all fish landed (southern blue fins to 2-3kg).Got enough for a good feed then went bottom bouncing after the tuna shut down from feeding.Only managed a few pickers and a sand snapper (to ADAM HA HA HA HA!), tried for kgs (no luck), then went into the weed banks for squid (very slow going). All in all really had a great day so thanks go to bouttime and Adam.Great to meet you both and look forwatrd to getting out in the future.

Cheers OX

Yep, was good to meet you too OX. As for the sand snapper, bugger bugger bugger, though I had picked up a nice sized little dhu as it had a few solid headshakes. Damn disappointed when I saw the sand snapper, ahh well, can't win all the time. The tuna were awesome fun anyway, just had the second feed, mmmmmmmmm.

Bit of everything

We had a bit of everything out, red n whites, mackerel patterns, deep divers, 2mtrs, when you found them I don't think it really mattered too much what was in the spread, as long as it rattled n hummed they'd hit it. They were literally everywhere underneath the boat at one stage.

As Adam replied

Yep just about everything worked but I did notice that the red head bibbed minnow (190's) did work really well (correct me if I am wrong Adam/Bouttime).The tuna also were mainly caught off the middle trebble on the lure as opposed to the tail trebble. We were lucky to hit a decent school and as Adam said they were under the boat on several occasions, while we pulled in tuna we tryed to get a hook up with casted minnow lures (several follows but no takes).Awsome to watch and be involved in.

Did ya try wangin some small metals(10odd gram's) around on smaller(bream) gear when the school was hanging tight round tha boat? Just a method i've used in the passed with reasonable success. On those smaller tuna, its a great way to target them.

out from point peron when ive found them too the red headed white bodied lures were only tappped compared to the other two darker colours i had out and they seemed to hit my lures less than a meter under. the deeper dvers were onlt nudged.
